This is a response language workshop designed for rising or current student affairs professionals. Over the course of the workshop, professionals will have the opportunity to:
- Better understand microaggressions and their impact in the context of professional environments
- Provide space to discuss why some microaggressions are challenging to respond to and factors that might impact our response
- Empower folks to maintain the integrity of spaces they occupy
- Better understand the relationship between response and trust
The workshop will culminate in a series of facilitated case scenarios that contextualize microaggressions in the workplace that will allow professionals to practice using their response language toolkit. There is no right way to respond in these scenarios, which better helps professionals unpack the challenges and nuances with response language including who is involved, how identity impacts response, and what might mitigate harm the most in the moment.
