SUMMARY: The overall responsibility of a General Manager is the profitable operation and growth of a Bruster’s Ice Cream store. The General Manager is responsible for all aspects of daily store operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. INCREASE SALES
a. Assure high levels of product quality/customer service
b. Develop and implement promotions/promotional events/community involvement plans
c. Make specialty items (cakes, pies, etc.) and promote sales of same
2. OPERATE THE STORE
a. Recruit, hire and train all employees in standard Bruster’s operating procedures
b. Schedule employees within all relevant labor laws, ensuring adequate store staffing
c. Be trained & certified in ice cream making, be responsible for training store ice cream makers and monitoring production to ensure quality product
d. Determine store needs & order products & supplies
e. Assure good cash handling procedures, maintain the “bank”, run register sales reports & deposit funds in the bank daily
f. Complete paperwork required for company & government compliance
g. Maintain property, building & equipment in good & safe operating condition & to assure customer appeal, including coordination of routine maintenance scheduling and vendor relationships.
h. Decorate the store for holidays & other special occasions
i. Delegate & oversee work of staff & hold occasional crew meetings
j. Perform various functions of staff members including serving customers
3. DEVELOP PEOPLE
a. Train & motivate staff to provide high levels of customer service & enthusiastic, proactive accomplishment of routine store tasks
b. Retain good employees through effective & timely promotions and/or incentives
c. Encourage & motivate employees to introduce other qualified employment prospects to Bruster’s (friends, etc.)
d. Overall, provide a safe, fun & memorable work experience Bruster’s employees will recommend to others
4. HAVE FUN
a. Plan special events at store that encourage fun
b. Develop & sponsor contests among employees
c. Maintain fun atmosphere among staff, as well as customers
d. Hold social events for employees, i.e., holiday party
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Employee will provide leadership to entire staff on a daily basis. Strong supervisory skills are required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or equivalent. A food service or management background is helpful. Basic computer skills are necessary.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must possess well-developed verbal skills sufficient to communicate effectively with employees and customers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Must possess well-developed math skills sufficient to complete paperwork and reports required to operate store effectively.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: The position of General Manager requires an “owner mentality,” a strong commitment to excellence and well-developed skills in the areas of organization, time management, flexibility and task delegation. Also, General Manager should be creative and show attention to detail.

Employee must possess or develop both the manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to scoop and portion all of our retail and wholesale products, most times without the aid of measuring devices, due to the volume of sales we may encounter.
Employee must be able to maneuver in a tight and sometimes congested working environment, both quickly and without creating a hazard.
Position requires lifting up to 50 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 lbs. Requires walking or standing to a significant degree.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to chemicals used in cleaning. Employee is also exposed to extreme cold occasionally when entering the walk-in freezer. The employee also frequently comes into contact with hot water while cleaning and sanitizing tools and containers, and the extreme heat of the waffle iron while baking waffle cones. The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud.
OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:
General Manager is a full-time position requiring 40 to 48 hours per week, including evenings. The employee must possess a valid driver’s license and furnish own vehicle to achieve work objectives; maintain an orderly, clean and safe work area; properly care for company property; and maintain proper conduct befitting a business environment.
Vacation time should ideally be taken between October 1st and March 15th.
