• Economics Teacher of the Year Award

    Do you love economics? Do you have a unique or exemplary approach to incorporating economics into your classroom instruction? The Mississippi Council on Economic Education's Economics Teacher of the Year award is to recognize teachers like you! This award honors teachers of any subject who use exemplary teaching techniques that improve their students' economic understanding, in and out of the classroom. Annually, an award of $500 cash and an all expense paid trip to the national Council for Economic Education annual conference or Jump$tart National Conference is given to one MS teacher who proves their passion for economic education.
  • Eligibility

    • All K-12 certified teachers from public, private or parochial schools may enter. Winners may reapply after a two-year waiting period.
    • Eligible teachers are limited to one entry per year. Non-winning entries from previous years’ competitions may be revised and re-taught for submission. Previous winning entries may not be resubmitted.
    • The instructional programs or activities used as documentation of success in the classroom must have been taught in the period August 1, 2022 to May 31, 2023.
    • The entry must be the teacher’s own work. All references and resources used must be cited. Adaptation of another’s work must be indicated.
    • All entries and accompanying materials become the property of the Mississippi Council on Economic Education and may be disseminated to educators throughout the state.
    • The official application form must be completed in its entirety. 
    • Entries must be submitted by September 15, 2023.

  • Documentation

    Provide an example of a lesson that you use that reinforces your responses to the short answer questions. This need not be an original lesson, but you should include evidence of how you adapt the lesson to meet your specific student needs (list appropriate credit if non-original resources are included.) Your lesson submission may be either a document and/or video.
