  • Cuyamaca College Center for Water Studies and The Water Conservation Garden Tour at SC23

  • Participants on the tour will visit the Center for Water Studies, which is oldest & most comprehensive of the 21 water & wastewater technology programs offered by California Community Colleges. Its 30 course curricula offers Certificates and Associate degrees in seven different areas of specialization. Over the past five years, the college has invested more than $3 million dollars upgrading the curricula and facilities. The CWS is housed in its own building which provides classrooms, a water quality lab, and a backflow, pump & valve shop. The Field Operations Skills Yard features a fully operational above ground distribution loop system where students learn to perform many entry-level skill by doing. The Water Conservation Garden began more than 20 years ago, as a joint venture between the college, which donated the 5 1/2 acre site and the Otay and Helix Water Districts, who provided the funding to design and develop the Garden as a way to educate their ratepayers and East County landscapers and residents about ways to better manage and conserve water. Sunset Magazine has listed The Garden as one of the “Must See” demonstration gardens in North America. Bus transportation to and from this tour is being generously provided by the Helix and Otay Water Districts.
