While working as a YOUTH VOLUNTEER, I will:
- Protect and guide children and other youth entrusted to my care.
- Treat everyone with respect, courtesy, dignity and patience.
- Be positive, supportive, and caring in my speech and interactions with children and other youth.
- Use positive words of encouragement to change behavior and encourage others to do likewise.
- Maintain appropriate physical and emotional boundaries with children. Examples of permissible physical contact include:
- Side hugs or an arm around the shoulder
- Handshakes, fist bumps, and high fives
- Holding hands while walking with young children
- Pats on the shoulder and upper back
- Holding hands during prayer
- Not physically pick up any child nor allow a child to sit on a lap.
- Promptly report to the Crew Manager or VBS Directors, any inappropriate or bullying behavior.
- Promptly report suspected abuse to the Crew Manager or VBS Directors. If it involves them, report to the pastor.
- Dress appropriately, consistent with my role and assigned activities. I understand that if I am not appropriately dressed, I will be sent home to change. I will:
- wear shorts with a 6" inseam or greater.
- no wear any clothing with offensive or profane messages or pictures during Work Days or VBS Fun Days.
- not wear leggings or jeggings.
While working as a volunteer, I will not:
- Use my cell phone or other electronic device during the time I am being asked to serve.
- Use or possess tobacco products.
- Use or allow profanity in the presence of minors or other youth.
- Verbally or physically abuse or threaten anyone.
- Tolerate inappropriate or bullying behavior.
