About Tombstone Territorial Park: Tombstone Territorial Park / Ddhäl Ch'èl Cha Nän is situated within a spectacular sub-arctic wilderness, comprised of craggy mountain ridges, unglaciated Beringian uplands, and permafrost tundra. Tombstone lies within the Traditional Territory of the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in First Nation and is a legacy of their land claim agreement.

About the residency: Presented in partnership by Friends of Dempster Country, Yukon Arts Centre and Yukon Parks, artists are invited to develop and share their artistic practice in Tombstone’s magnificent wilderness setting. The residency provides a unique opportunity for artists to immerse themselves in the sub-arctic landscape of Tombstone Territorial Park / Ddhäl Ch'èl Cha Nän to gain new inspiration and push their artistic practice. It is a time for connection- with oneself, with the public, and with the natural and cultural history of this incredibly special place.

This residency is open to emerging and established Yukon visual artists including those who work in carving, painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, beadwork, ceramics, photography, video, performance, and craft.

Deadline: April 15, 2023

2023 edition: Open to Yukon Visual Artists.
Dates: Two weeks in Summer (ideally July)

What is offered by the partners:
- $3000 honourarium
- Wall-tent studio
- 2 week camping pass for Tombstone Territorial Campground
What is expected of the artist resident:
- 1 formal workshop
- 1 public talk
- 2 “Artist at Work” drop-in/observation opportunities or 2 demonstrations
- Attendance at 1 “Artist Farewell” gathering
- Artists are expected to provide their own camping gear and food for the duration of their stay and should be prepared to be largely self-sufficient.
- Artists arrange their own travel to and from the Park.
- Artists will provide Partners with at least one image of a work that was initiated or worked on during the residency (by September 31st). The image will be used by the Partners for archival and promotional purposes.
The Residency and interactions with the public will follow Yukon health and safety regulations and guidelines.

Things to consider:
- Tombstone is a remote wilderness park. The nearest gas, food, lodging and medical services are in Dawson City, a 1.5 hr drive away. There is nowhere to buy food within the Park.
- Park staff are available to assist with set-up, workshops, and to answer questions, but artists should expect to be otherwise self-sufficient
- The Park does not offer electricity, cellular, or internet services.
  Campground is equipped with outhouses. Water needs to be boiled or treated before use.
- There are no showers in the Park.
- Getting to the Park by car means travelling on the unpaved Dempster Highway for 72 km.
- It is recommended that you bring spare tires.
- Travel time from Dawson City is 1.5 hrs by car. From Whitehorse, 7 hrs.
