Saturday, March 18, 10:00 - 12:00 pm at Qualla Arts & Crafts Mutual:
Community member Frances Owl-Smith will share some of her beautiful quilts and be interviewed about her life as a quiltmaker (illustration above is based on one of Frances' quilts). We’ll see a video about a vintage quilt in the MCI collection that is too fragile to be exhibited. Quilt historian Merikay Waldvogel will show and talk about historic quilts made in Western, NC,
Saturday, March 18, 1:00 - 4:00 pm at the Museum of the Cherokee Indian:
Bring quilts (ones you’ve made or ones you own) to share with fellow quilt lovers. We will have photo and video stations set up and activity tables for learning to quilt and put labels on quilts. A quilt historian will be available to help identify quilt patterns and other details of vintage and antique quilts brought in.Refreshments will be served during both sessions and kids activities will be offered.

Optional: If you would like to document your quilts with photos/video please select the time slot that works best for you on Saturday, March 18. During this free Quilt Documentation Day, we will have digital photography and videography stations set up. A quilt historian or educator will be on hand to help identify quilt patterns and dates of older quilts. Documentation forms and quilt labels will be available to record and preserve information about your quilt(s). You can bring quilts you made, quilts you own (or both) to be documented. The quilts you bring can be ones made recently, vintage quilts or antique quilts--all quilts are welcomed!
