Organizational Context:
Voice of Purpose (VOP) is an organization that focuses on capacity building and systems change in the transformative arts sector. The primary purpose of our industry is to deliver empowering social impact through the arts and community engagement. VOP serves the sector through professional development, consulting, and sector-wide collaborations. We are an organization dedicated to co-liberation, social justice, and our mission centers on being an industry catalyst by supporting arts organizations, leaders, and the sector as a whole to embody their true purpose and deepen their impact in the world.
VOP is in the process of developing and delivering new projects in 2024 across Canada and the US that will provide professional development training for community engaged artists, and strategic change management support for arts leaders of colour.

The Role & Ideal Candidate:
VOP is seeking an Outreach & Marketing Manager to join our team, as we develop and launch our new projects for 2024. The main function of this role is to lead the development of outreach, marketing, partnership and promotion strategies, content and execution - and to support thought leaders to share educational resources and industry-catalyzing initiatives in the community arts sector.
The ideal candidate is skilled in online marketing and promotions, creating and sharing engaging educational content, and managing promotional outreach initiatives for specialized programs and projects. They are a strategic thinker, leader, and creative. They anchor their work in equity, human centered relationship and trust building, effective communications, efficient systems, processes, flexibility, creativity and innovation. They are experienced in the art of growing community engagement, successfully managing project life-cycles, and is familiar with the Community Arts non-profit sector (ideally has grounded experience in community arts education or the equity-focused arts industry).
The ideal candidate has sharp and refined faculties for noticing and strategically placing nuanced visual, written, and auditory details. They have experience being a team leader, brand manager; and is able to see the big picture and create detailed production processes for marketing and promotions. Experience with social media ads, podcasts, websites, online educational/collaborative platforms and successful product and campaign launches are big assets.
The candidate we are looking for feels excited about the prospect of using their talents in marketing, promotions, communications, partnership development and outreach to support projects dedicated to 1) capacity development (e.g. professional development for community engaged artists), and 2) systems change (e.g. strategic change management support for arts leaders of color) – in the community arts industry.
This is a leadership and leadership support role. It is an opportunity to grow with an innovative organization in the arts, striving to catalyze our industry toward positive transformation.
The candidate will report directly to our Executive Director and serve as a core pillar for the VOP Team as we launch our new projects in the new year. The candidate will be invited to contribute to and support strategic planning, as well as help organize, carry out and delegate related tasks to drive project goals and organizational purpose forward.

Examples of Possible Tasks (not a comprehensive list, open to changes):
- Co-lead marketing strategy meetings; take notes, synthesize and provide summaries; create workplans and delegate tasks
- Lead project launches - support with related project management and admin
- Lead social media management and other domains related to content creation and engagement - may include: graphic design (on Canva), light video & audio editing (i.e. stories and reels) post scheduling, social media calendar management
- Copywriting, transcription editing and synthesizing
- Research, synthesizing and analyzing engagement data
- Support participant registration and intake admin
- Other marketing, communications and promotions related admin/tasks
- Other partnership development and outreach related admin/tasks
- Other tasks as needed for the organization and as appropriate for the skills of the candidate.
Digital Tools:
The candidate will need to utilize and become proficient in the following software during their placement - training will be provided as needed: Google Workspace, Miro, Coda, Canva, Podcast and Social Media publishing tools & platforms, Zoom, Active Campaign, Wordpress, Asana more TBD
Our content channels currently include: Social media (Instagram, Facebook & LinkedIn), website & blog (voiceofpurpose.org), email newsletters, partner and 3rd party platforms.
Qualities and Experience of an Ideal Candidate:
- Established career in Digital Marketing & Promotions
- An artist (visual / digital media / audio / video) or has a vested interest the arts field for their career
- Human/care-centered & community-oriented
- Commitment to Anti-Oppression, Social Justice, Co-Liberation, EDIA
- Able to work in teams in a highly collaborative environment, as well as & independently
- A Leader - Self-motivated / Self-driven
- Pays attention to detail
- Interested in innovation and strategy
- Interested in change and transformation stewardship (industry change leadership)
- Access to stable internet & computer - able to work in a fully remote and technology-dependent environment using the tools mentioned above
Reporting & Team Structure:
The candidate will be taking directives from our Executive Director and may be delegating and managing a small team or engaging with external partners. The majority of our team works within Eastern & Central Time Zones.
Compensation: $25-30 CAD/hr 10-15 hrs per week for 12-16 months. Please note that this is an independent contractor position.
