  • 8th GRADE SPRING SEASON 2023 INFO  

     

    Please note a change due to construction. We are excited to announce that construction is underway to finish the upper level of the boathouse. We have about 100 juniors during the season and it will be tight to accommodate all teams in the downstairs boat bays. Because of this we may have to occasionally adjust practice times/locations. We will keep you updated.


     
     
    8th Grade Spring Season

     

    Parent Meeting: Saturday, March 25, 11:30am, right after practice. Meet by the boat bays on the lower floor. The kids will have their first week under their belt and the meeting should be short and sweet. Afterwards, the kids can tour you through the downstairs and we can answer questions.


    March 20- May 6, 2023

    Practices: 

    • Monday and Wednesday, 4-6pm
    • Saturday, 9:30-11:30am


    Program Cost: $450 for program fees and $25 BIR dues

  • Registration

    A reminder if you need to pause your registration, you can save it and come back later to finish. You will find the 'Save and Continue Later' button at the bottom of the form alongside the 'Submit' button.

     

    The following items will be needed to complete this registration:

    1. US Rowing Membership:  Please have your rower's USRowing number ready to input. If you need to join or renew your membership:

    USRowing membership fees must be paid each calendar year. 

    Rowers 18 years and older: USRowing has implemented a requirement that all youth, when they turn 18, take SafeSport Core training to participate. To access the training log into USRowing account here. Look for the SafeSport icon on the lower left. Click on that, and then the catalog to access the SafeSport Core Training (90 min).     2. Upload simple headshot of your Junior Rower - to be used for coaches only to identify and get to know the kids 

     

    3. Physical Examination Form - Required to participate and complete registration. Have a file ready to upload or if your rowers physical is already uploaded in their iCrew documents you do not need to upload it here.  

    If your student doesn't currently have a physical, use this link to print the physical form and have your Doctor sign it. Physicians may have their own form which is fine. It just needs to be approved and signed by a physician. Once completed and signed, log into your iCrew account and upload the physical.

    All registrants are required to upload a signed WIAA Physical Examination Form, certifying fitness ability to participate in rowing activities. This form is to be completed by your physician. If your rowers physical is already uploaded in their iCrew documents you do not need to upload it here.

  • Bainbridge Island Rowing Waiver of Liability

    CONSENT AND RELEASE FROM LIABILITY

     

    IN CONSIDERATION of being given the opportunity to participate in any Bainbridge Island Rowing (hereinafter “BIR”) activities (“Activity or Activities”) I, for myself, my personal representatives, assigns, heirs, and next of kin:

    I ACKNOWLEDGE, agree, and represent that I understand the nature of rowing activities, both on water and land based; that I am qualified, in good health, and in proper physical condition to participate in such Activity; and that I am a qualified and competent swimmer.

    I FULLY UNDERSTAND that: (a) ROWING ACTIVITIES INVOLVE INHERENT RISKS AND DANGERS of communicable disease(s), serious bodily injury, including permanent disability, paralysis, and death; and property damage ("Risks); (b) these Risks and dangers may be caused by my own actions, or inactions, the actions or inactions of others participating in the Activity, the condition in which the Activity takes place, or the negligence of the Releasees named below; (c) by entering the premises and participating in rowing- related and sponsored activities that there are risks to me and to those with whom I interact of exposure, directly or indirectly, to communicable disease(s) including but not limited to the virus “severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV2)”, “COVID-19”, and/or any mutation or variation thereof; (d) there may be other risks and social and economic losses either not known to me or not readily foreseeable at this time; and I FULLY ACCEPT AND ASSUME ALL SUCH RISKS AND ALL RESPONSIBILITY FOR LOSSES, COSTS, AND DAMAGES I incur as a result of my participation in BIR Activities.

    I AGREE AND WARRANT that I will examine and inspect each Activity in which I take part as a member of BIR and that if I observe any condition, which I consider to be unacceptably hazardous or dangerous, I will notify the proper authority in charge of the Activity and will refuse to take part in the Activity until the condition has been corrected to my satisfaction.

    I AFFIRM I will comply with the BIR policies as they relate to communicable diseases.

    I HEREBY RELEASE, discharge, and covenant not to sue BIR, its officers, directors, members, volunteers, employees, and agents (hereinafter “Releasees”) from all liability, claims, demands, losses, or damages of any kind or nature which may arise out of, result from, or relate in any way to my participation in BIR Activities, including claims caused or alleged to be caused in whole or in part by the negligence of the Releasees or otherwise, whether on the water or off, including negligent rescue operations.

    I further agree that if, despite this release and waiver of liability, assumption of risk, and indemnity agreement, I, or anyone on my behalf, makes a claim against any of the Releasees, I WILL INDEMNIFY, SAVE, AND HOLD HARMLESS each of the Releasees from any litigation expenses, attorney fees, loss, liability, damage, or cost which any may occur as a result of such claim, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

    By my electronic signature, I warrant that: (1) I have read this agreement and fully understand its terms and the fact that I will be giving up substantial rights; (2) I have signed this agreement freely and without inducement or assurances of any nature; (3) I intend for this to be a complete and unconditional release of all liability to the greatest extent allowed by law; (4) that if any portion of this agreement is held to be invalid, the remainder shall continue in full force and effect; and (5) I understand that the terms of this release are unlimited in duration and cover any and all BIR Activities that I participate in now and at any time in the future.


    BIR Waiver iCrew 2022

  • Medical Release Authorization

    As Parent and/or Guardian of the named athlete, I hereby authorize the diagnosis and treatment by a qualified and licensed medical professional, of the minor child, in the event of a medical emergency, which in the opinion of the attending medical professional, requires immediate attention to prevent further endangerment of the minor’s life, physical disfigurement, physical impairment, or other undue pain, suffering or discomfort, if delayed.

    Permission is hereby granted to the attending physician to proceed with any medical or minor surgical treatment, x-ray examination and immunizations (i.e. tetanus shot) for the named athlete. In the event of an emergency arising out of serious illness, the need for major surgery, or significant accidental injury, I understand that every attempt will be made by the attending physician to contact me in the most expeditious way possible. This authorization is granted only after a reasonable effort has been made to reach me.

    Permission is also granted to Bainbridge Island Rowing and its affiliates including Directors, Coaches, and Team Parents to provide the needed emergency treatment prior to the child’s admission to the medical facility.

    Release authorized on the dates and/or duration of the registered season.

    This release is authorized and executed of my own free will, with the sole purpose of authorizing medical treatment under emergency circumstances, for the protection of life and limb of the named minor child, in my absence.

  • Annual Coach/Athlete/Parent Code of Conduct 

    I consent to abide by the below described Rules of Conduct while I am associated with, participate with or are under the auspices/control of the Bainbridge Island Rowing (BIR). I understand that violations may result in full or partial forfeiture of a registered athlete, coach, and/or parents’ privileges without recourse and/or other disciplinary proceedings as outlined by BIR’S Disciplinary Process.


    1. In accordance with US Rowing, as well as BIR rules governing athletes’ and parents’ conduct, BIR registered athletes, coaches, volunteers and parents shall demonstrate good sportsmanship. This includes, but is not limited to, avoiding the following misconduct:

    • Hazing or taunting or mocking an athlete, coach, regatta official or any person participating in or conducting a BIR sanctioned program or event. This includes communications taking place via social media;
      Physically or verbally abusing an athlete, coach, or race official or any person participating in or conducting a BIR sanctioned event including but not limited to making derogatory comments about such person’s race, sex religion, age, disability, national origin, or sexual orientation;
      Using obscene gestures, profane or unduly provocative language toward an athlete, coach, parent, regatta official, or any person participating in or conducting a BIR sanctioned program or event.
      Publicly and unduly criticizing an athlete, coach, race official, or any person participating in or conducting a BIR sanctioned program or event including but not limited to, inciting others to engage in conduct in violation of the Rules; 
    • Negative recruiting by making unduly derogatory statements about the members or coaches of another team;

    • Although BIR is a physical sport, BIR registered athletes, coaches, volunteers and parents are expected to refrain from engaging in any act with the intent to cause injury to another athlete, coach, volunteer or parent. 

    • Coaches, volunteers, parents and BIR members shall not engage in any inappropriate financial or sexual relationships with athletes.

    2. BIR has adopted both the US Rowing Safe Sport Policy and its own Safe Sport Policy in accordance with the guidance of the US Center for Safe Sport. All of these policies are designed to protect junior athletes from both sexual and non-sexual abuse. All members of BIR, both juniors and adults, and all coaches and volunteers are required to take the annual SafeSport Training appropriate to their role. Incidents of alleged sexual misconduct must be reported to US Safe Sport (Incident Report Form or call 833-587-7233) and local law enforcement. Incidents of alleged non-sexual misconduct should be reported to BIR through the Club’s Incident Report Form and/or the BIR SafeSport Coordinator.

    3. Athletes, coaches, and parents of BIR shall not use, possess, or provide alcohol, illegal substances, or drugs (except as prescribed by a licensed physician) in violation of federal, state, or local laws.

    4. Firearms, ammunition, knives, and all other items that could be construed as a weapon are prohibited while on BIR grounds or at BIR sanctioned events.

    5. Misconduct including, but not limited to, inappropriate horseplay, property damage, theft, fighting, or any act considered to be in violation of federal, state, local laws or that of a host country is prohibited.

  • BIR likes to celebrate the achievements of our athletes throughout the season by publishing photographs on social media, our website and in local newspapers. Please let us know if BIR may not publish photographs of your athlete.

  •  FEE PAYMENT:

    Once this form is submitted, you will receive a confirmation from Jotform. Within a few days your rower will be added to the iCrew team and fees applied to their account. Please log into your iCrew account and pay your fees. If you are new to BIR, you will receive an email from our registrar with next steps and iCrew log on instructions.
