Beatboxers today are doing things that the originators never dreamed of, both in terms of skill and community. Smartphones, laptops, and YouTube enabled beatboxers to rapidly share and learn new techniques and rhythmic patterns, organize battles and cyphers, and even create a shared notation language! Learn about the history of the art form and how beatboxing has become an underground global phenomenon with true geniuses at the helm.
David Resnick aka “Rezzy with the Beats” is a communicator who brings smiles to faces and expansion to belief systems. As a person who stutters, he developed methods to connect and interact with people using more than words. Mid-stutter, in his teens, he discovered he could beatbox as the repeated syllables started sounding like rhythms. This passion has taken him across national stages as a musician, visualist, technologist, and public speaker. Highlights include being Diplo’s VJ and speaking about Empathy and Technology at TEDxCulverCity.
David currently leads the Inclusive Design team at Disney+ where he improves the app experience for people who have historically been underrepresented and misrepresented. David also co-founded Stutter Social, a video chat support group for people who stutter across 75 countries. He holds an M.S. in Arts Computation Engineering from UC Irvine and a B.A. in Music from Bard College. Music from his latest musical project, Rollerpop, can be found on all streaming services.
