  • Your Commitment Matters

On a scale of 1 to 10, how committed are you to achieving optimal wellness using a holistic approach which may include changing your diet, lifestyle changes, stress management, taking any appropriate nutrients and/or supplements, addressing current or previous traumas, addressing emotional issues and taking responsibility for YOUR OWN health and health outcomes? This commitment cannot come from your significant others, it needs to come from you.

  • Please rate the following questions on a scale from 1 to 5 with 5 being the most willing:

  • Onboarding Information

Specifically for cancer treatment, Drs. Binjemain, Xavier, Brennan, and other doctors are not against any standard care approaches to treat cancer and will refer you to a medical oncologist, surgeon, or radiation oncologist with your consent when required. Standard of care cancer management is an important part of holistic cancer care and there are many ways of managing any particular side effects and improving its efficacy.

As we get many requests for consults and due to the nature of the disease, we have to triage the requests and prioritise patients who are diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer or with pancreatic cancer. Therefore patients will be seen based on urgency and not on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Due to the complexity of cancer, we have an onboarding process for new patients diagnosed with cancer or who are in remission.

As a new patient at Willow Vale Clinic, it is highly recommended that you go through an onboarding process with the Clinical Nurse or one of our doctors. The onboarding process will be conducted at least two weeks prior to the first appointment with Drs. Binjemain or Xavier to allow time for new blood test results to be available.

The onboarding process is a fundamental part of your journey into an integrative approach to cancer management. The initiation process gives us the opportunity to explore your case in depth and ensure that our philosophy and approach to cancer are right for you.

In our experience, the best outcomes are achieved in patients who are educated about their cancer and the adjunct care that is available, in conjunction with standard-of-care cancer management. Being your advocate is a crucial part of the cancer journey; that step begins with education and knowledge.

Treatment protocols may be discussed in the onboarding consultation. This enables the patient to be familiar with the protocols before the appointment with Drs. Binjemain and Xavier. With your case report and history complete, Drs. Binjemain and Xavier can spend time working with you on treatment plans, reviewing your latest blood results, and providing appropriate advice.

There will be several, fundamental things that you will need to start implementing before your consultation with our doctors. Starting on the protocol gives you a headstart and a base routine before more of the protocol can be added in. In your consultation, you will be more familiar with the treatment protocols available and will have already established the essential groundwork routine.

The Onboarding Consultation does not replace any part of the consultation with Drs. Binjemain, Xavier, and other doctors and is not a substitute for any medical advice.

What to expect in the Onboarding Session

    Detailed Case History

    • Discussion of your cancer in detail.
    • Information on the cancer type, stage, and current oncology treatment.
    • Review of available pathology results.

    Follow-up Consultation

At Willow Vale Clinic, we believe in maximizing the value of your first doctor's consultation. You will be provided with protocols, prescriptions, and recommendations. There will be a lot of information to take on board.

The follow-up will ensure that you are confident with the personalised plan that is provided to you. This is a crucial step to be able to implement the treatment plan effectively.

In summary, you will have an appointment with our Clinical Nurse or doctor which lasts between 1-1.5 hours, then 2 weeks later an appointment with Drs. Binjemain or Xavier which lasts approx 1.5 hours and then 1-2 weeks later, a follow-up appointment with our Clinical Specialist again for another 1 hour. The cost of this onboarding process is $1350 (with an additional 1.7% surcharge for digital payments). If you attend the appointment with Drs. Binjemain or Xavier in person, then there would be a Medicare rebate of item 44, currently worth $121. In total, the whole process will take up to 4 hours of one-to-one specialised consult to answer your questions regarding your diagnosis and to help address one of the most significant turning points of your life. We hope to be able to help guide you through this journey.

Further, follow-up consults are based on appointments only and are charged per 15 min block based on the hourly rate. The current hourly rate for Dr Binjemain is $600, Dr Xavier is $500 and Laura is $300.

    In regards to off-label prescription of drugs to assist your cancer treatment that has been prescribed by your oncologist, please read below and sign the consent if you agree;

This off-label drugs protocol works as an adjunct or addition to standard-of-care oncological treatment. By using medicines in combination, we may be able to target multiple biological pathways, thus creating a synergistic effect and potentially offering greater benefit than the addition of one adjuvant therapeutic agent on its own. The medications that we use, such as Metformin, Atorvastatin, Doxycycline, etc are currently used for treating various medical conditions ranging from diabetes and atherosclerosis to infection and acne. The medicines all have anti-cancer potential and there is considerable literature (ranging from in vitro studies, in vivo human tissue studies, case reports, clinical studies, and epidemiological studies), which supports their use in the context of cancer. These evidence are available on request but are also available in the public domain eg Google Scholar or Pubmed and attached to the relevant documents.

Certain side effects can be associated with these medicines, the most common of which are gastrointestinal such as nausea, vomiting, flatulence, and diarrhoea. Muscle pain/fatigue may also occur, as well as hepatotoxicity and rhabdomyolysis in very rare cases, in patients who are extremely sensitive to statins. Lactic acidosis can arise in patients who suffer from diabetes or renal impairment, and we normally advise patients on Metformin to omit this medication if their renal function deteriorates, they are grossly dehydrated, have an acute infection requiring antibiotics, or before and after a radiological scan that utilises contrast agent. Usually, however, patients adjust to the medicines quite quickly and side effects, should they occur, are mostly mild and tolerable. Serology or Blood tests to check liver and kidney function, as well as full blood count, should be performed one month after commencing treatment, and then again before each follow-up appointment at 3-month intervals.

We would like to stress that our medication protocol is an adjunctive or additive treatment, designed to synergise with whatever standard-of-care systemic anticancer therapy that may have been prescribed. It is in no way a replacement for the standard of care treatment. There is the potential to increase the doses of certain of these medications in the future, depending on the patient’s clinical response to treatment, as well as their tolerance of any side effects. We are happy to advise you regarding the specific changes that could be made, should this be relevant. I hope this information is useful to you. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any queries or concerns regarding our protocol.

  • I, *, by signing the form below, understand and acknowledge that Drs. Binjemain, Xavier, and Brennan will not stop or prevent me from pursuing standard-of-care medical treatment for my cancer diagnosis and would encourage me to pursue standard medical intervention, which can include surgery, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, hormone therapy, or radiation. Drs. Binjemain and Xavier will work with the patient to get the best result possible but do not promise or guarantee a cure or a positive result due to the nature of the disease and the many factors involved.
