Linn County Lamb and Wool Fair 2023 Royal Court Application

APPLICATION QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be a resident of Linn County.
• Must be on track to graduate in 2023 or 2024.
• Must be at least 16 years old by January 1, 2023.
• Complete Application and submit it before March 3, 2023.

  • Two (2) Letters of Recommendation from adults not related to the applicant.
  • $25 non-refundable application fee, payable to: "Linn County Lamb and Wool Fair"
  • A printed (wallet size or 4x6) current portrait of applicant
• Must be able to attend mandatory dates:

  • Mandatory Parent Meeting March 21, 2023
  • Royal Court Orientation April 4, 2023
  • Royal Court Media Day TBD
  • Royal Court Social May 17, 2023

  • ALL 3 DAYS of the 2023 Linn County Lamb and Wool Fair Friday, Saturday, and Sunday May 19, 20, and 21, 2023
  • Strawberry Festival Grand Parade June 3, 2023
  • The 2023 Queen/King must also be able to attend the 2024 Coronation Ceremony, the 3rd full weekend in May, to present the crown to the 2024 Linn County Lamb and Wool Fair Queen/King.

Completed applications will be reviewed and scored by the Royal Court Committee. Social Media presence will be reviewed and evaluated; behavior, social interactions and communication during the application process will also be used in the Royal Court selection.

SELECTION PROCESS:

1. Court Selection:

• Completed applications will be reviewed and scored by the Royal Court Committeer. Social Media presense will be reviewed and evaluated, behavior, social interactions and communication during the application process will also be used in the Royal Court selection. 
• All eligible candidates, having submitted a completed application prior to the deadline, will be called to schedule a brief interview with a review panel of judges from the community and board on Saturday, March 11, 2023. Each judge will ask pre-determined questions of the candidate, with the possibility of follow up questions regarding their application.
  • Character (50%): Demonstrates good citizenship, community-minded, involved in activities, shows desires to help others, and works well with others on the court and in the community.
  • Communication Skills (25%): Speaks clearly, expresses themselves appropriately, good eye contact, creative speech content, written communication skills, good use of grammar, and legibility.
  • Presence (25%): Time management, poised under pressure, prepared for public and Royal Court interactions, enthusiastic, sincere, confident, with appropriate grooming and hygiene. The top scoring applicants will be notified of their selection, and provided with a questionnaire via email to complete and return by 9:00PM Friday, March 17, 2023. The questionnaires will be reviewed and evaluated by the Royal Court Committee.

2. Announcement of Court:

• Finalists will be selected based on the highest cumulative scores across all judging criteria: application, interview, and questionnaire.
• Each candidate will be notified regarding their standing by email within 3 days of the questionnaire due date.
• The Royal Court candidates along with their parent(s) or guardian(s) will attend a meeting on March 21, 2023 (location and time to be provided) to cover all court requirements, code of conduct, family expectations, and answer any questions applicants may have regarding the experience of being a part of the Lamb and Wool Fair Royal Court. In order to be eligible to continue with the selection process, at least one parent or guardian must be present at this meeting.

3. Selection of Queen/King:

• The Royal Court will have mandatory meetings: Orientation and Media Day. Court members will be judged on attendance, character, communication, and behavior at Royal Court meetings. There may be additional meetings for the Royal Court that are scheduled, attendance is encouraged and an excused absence must be submitted to the Royal Court Committee if a Court member cannot attend those additional dates. *See list of mandatory dates under Application Qualifications.
• A Royal Court Social will occur at the ZCBJ Hall on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at 7:00PM and will serve as a group interview of the Royal Court. Each Court member will make a final presentation about themselves and Lamb Fair on stage. This Social will gauge each candidate's comfort and ease at socializing with community members. The social event is an opportunity for each Court member to enjoy some dessert, socialize with members of the community and the Lamb Fair board, as well as interact with each other. The candidates will be judged by their character and presentation at the Social. Select community members will be incorporating some questions into their interactions, trying to determine who will best represent the Linn County Lamb and Wool Fair as the Royal Court Queen/King.
• The Court will participate in a Lamb Fair button sale to fundraise for the Linn County Lamb and Wool Fair Royal Court. Participation in this fundraiser and final sales will be included in judging for Queen/King selection.
• The 2023 Linn County Lamb and Wool Fair Coronation Ceremony will be on the Carol Bates Memorial Stage at the Fairgrounds on Friday, May 19, 2023 (time to be determined The 2022 Lamb Fair Queen will crown the 2023 Lamb Fair Queen/King.

If you are a Junior or Senior High School student who resides in Linn County you are invited to apply to be a part of the 2023 Linn CountyLamb and Wool Fair Royal Court. Applications are due March 3, 2023, and interviews will be held March 11, 2023. Finalists will be selected and notified after the interview process. Mandatory dates: Mandatory Parent Meeting March 21, 2023; Royal Court Orientation April 4, 2023; Royal Court Media Day Date TBD; Royal Court Social May 17, 2023; Logger Pride Day May 18, 2023; and ALL 3 DAYS of the 2023 Linn County Lamb and Wool Fair Friday, Saturday, and Sunday May 19, 20, and 21, 2023; Strawberry Festival Grand Parade June 3, 2023. The Royal Court are public figures your words, actions, and past may be discussed by the Fair, the media and/or the community. As a Royal Court member, youare always "on the record." Think about what this means to you and your family before you apply.
