82nd Avenue of Roses Parade Volunteer Application

Welcome to 82nd Avenue of Roses Parade 20th Anniversary Celebration!

Our parade intentionally builds spirit and public involvement in support of the community around 82nd Avenue. In 2026 we intend to show our appreciation of community art, music and dance through the diverse community members who participate in the 3-day event. 

Parade theme this year is the History of East Portland.

82nd Avenue of Roses Parade Twenty Year Celebration

Parade takes place on Saturday, April 25, 2026 on 82nd Avenue

Join the 82nd Avenue of Roses Parade in the Heart of Portland and help to bring smiles and community spirit to East Portland communities. Volunteers will help set up parade grounds, assist marchers and entries find their spot in line up, award rose trophies, flag crosswalks, and keep parade route safe by monitoring cross street traffic.

The Parade Route is 1.1 mile long from SE 82nd & Cora Street, traveling north on 82nd Avenue, turning left (west) onto Clinton St, and ends at 81st Avenue approximately 10:30 AM.

The Parade starts at 9:30 AM so Activator Volunteers start set up at 6:30 AM. Parade Marshals start traffic monitoring by 8:30 AM.

East Portland neighbors and friends can volunteer at a location of their choice if desired. We need a lot of friendly faces to secure the parade route. 

Volunteers Needed

• Parade Planning - Committee members organize, schedule and coordinate many parts of the parade including Parade Entry recruitment, Promotions, Operations, Volunteer and other activities.

• Activators - Set up tents, tables & signs, flagging and entry check-in support.

• Marshals - Route safety crew stationed at cross streets and driveways.

All volunteers receive a comemorative t-shirt, coffee and pastries at check in, access to parade festivities, and much love and appreciation from the East Portland community.

PARADE MARSHALS

Marshals check in starts at 7:30 AM for roll call and to enjoy coffee & pastries. 

After brief instructions, volunteers will go to assigned street crossings, set up road closure barricades (traffic officers and support supervisors may assist if needed).

Marshals keep the Parade route clearly marked and safe along 82nd Avenue from Holgate to Division Streets, stationed along all cross streets and driveways to make sure barricades are set up and stay in place until the parade passes.

Marshals need to be at their post by 8:30 AM and are asked to do 2-3 hours monitoring their areas.

Parade steps off at 9:30 AM. Enjoy the parade with a front row seat!

 

 

ACTIVATORS

Activators check in starts at 7:00 AM for roll call and to enjoy coffee & pastries.

After brief instructions, volunteers will set up the parade staging site on neighborhood streets west of SE 82nd Avenue.

Activators set up equipment, signs, and traffic cones in the parade line up area, requiring some physical labor.

Activators help check in entries and assist parade participants find their place in the line up for a smooth launch.

Volunteers are asked to help approximately 2 - 3 hours.

Enjoy the Parade at the start as it steps off at 9:30 AM.

VOLUNTEER TERMS AND CONDITIONS

 

1. I agree to turn up to my rostered shifts on time, and to advise the 82 Avene Parade volunteer staff well in advance if my availability for rostered shifts changes. 
2. I agree to work under the guidance and supervision of 82 Avene Parade volunteer staff.
3. I agree to turn up to my first rostered shift 10 minutes before the scheduled staff so as to be informed of particulars of the role and the venue.
4. I will not turn up to a rostered shift under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
5. I agree to advise 82 Avene Parade volunteer staff if I am unable or uncomfortable to complete tasks that have been assigned to. We will be understanding of these requests, just give us as much notice as possible.
6. I agree to inform my supervisor immediately of any injuries sustained while undertaking volunteering activities.
7. As a member of the 82 Avene Parade volunteer team, I will do my best to provide correct information and a positive attitude to all members of the public I deal with throughout the festival.
8. I agree to work in a constructive and cooperative way with 82 Roses volunteer staff and comply with any safety procedures as requested.
9. I understand that if I am unable to complete my allocated shifts, I may be asked to return my T-shirt
10. I understand that I am volunteering my services to 82 Roses and will not receive any remuneration for my services.
