Kenny Leon Internship Application Form

The Kenny Leon Internship is a season-long commitment that operates as a bridge opportunity for early-career BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) arts professionals. This is a part-time position geared toward those who want to learn more about arts administration while pursuing both personal and professional goals as artists in Atlanta.

The intern will join the Alliance Theatre’s Artistic Department for the season and gain hands-on experience working independently and collaboratively on projects with staff and artists.

The intern will receive mentorship from BIPOC arts leaders and specialists at the Alliance Theatre as well as invitations for professional development and networking opportunities in the Atlanta artistic community.

Internships begin September 5, 2023 and conclude May 31, 2024. This is a part-time position; intern should expect to work 20 hours a week, both in-person and virtual. Some weekend and evening work will be required.

The intern will receive $18/hour and parking at the Woodruff Arts Center.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
 
The intern will attend weekly Artistic, Audience Engagement, and Production meetings and one-on-one meetings with project supervisors. Duties include the following: 
 
Audience Engagement:  
- Lead post-show talkbacks and coordinate audience engagement events 
- Co-create lobby displays that bring the dramaturgical process to audiences 
- Participate in EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) Committee initiatives

Literary:  
- Submit script reports for new play submissions 
- Curate literary assets for productions including dramaturgical research files and articles for the playbills 
- Participate in the season selection process 
- Support script submission process 

New Works Development: 
- Assist with the Alliance/Kendeda National Graduate Playwriting Competition
- Assist with the Reiser Atlanta Artists Lab
- Serve as a member of the New Works Committee 

 
 
QUALIFICATIONS
 
Potential candidates can have varied backgrounds and experience in the arts. All candidates should, however, possess an ability to use the year-long opportunity to build a career in the arts. 
 
An ideal candidate will possess:  
 
- A major or minor degree in an arts-related discipline or one to three years of comparable experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including professional writing and creative writing  
- Ability to work efficiently under quick deadlines 
- Strong communication skills and a service-oriented mentality  
- Interest in joining existing projects and bringing new ideas to the table 
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
