The Refuge at La Foret and the Rocky Mountain Conference of the United Church of Christ are thrilled to co-create a new Leadership Development Program that builds on our shared legacy of outdoor ministry and spiritual formation. Rooted in the belief that camp is holy ground where leaders are born, this program invites emerging leaders to step into transformational service—equipping them with the skills, experience, and community needed to lead in today’s world. This application is specifically for the camp counselor/ camp chaplain portion of the leadership program. Phase 2 of this program will be optional, free, and offered in the fall and winter of 2025. More details will be announced soon.

  • Information About Summer Camps

  • 1: RMC-Outdoor Ministry is required by law to conduct background checks for all camp staff who work with children. We will submit information for this check prior to camp. All applicants must comply to ensure safety for our campers.

2: Summer camp for the campers is 6 days. For the staff, it is closer to 8. All camps have a mandatory “pre-camp” that begins between 24 and 48 hours before camp begins. All camps also have “post-camp” expectations in which counseling staff cleans up, debriefs, relaxes together, and celebrates the successes of the week. This period is typically between 3 and 6 hours long.

3: Many people want to serve at La Foret because they have had amazing experiences there already. We're SO glad! You have had these experiences because the camp staff has been there for YOU, not for themselves. You will be expected to uphold the same standard. Being a counselor is very different than being a camper. It is a way to deepen in faith and service. It is a way to offer your gifts to share in authentic community. It is a way to have an incredible time. It is also work. Your job is to put the campers first, consider their needs before your own, model the behaviors that cultivate respect and love, become familiar with and uphold all RMC policies, and fulfill all the responsibilities you are assigned.
