Instructor Proposal for Workshops at Shaker Village

Thank you for your interest in being a workshop instructor at Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village! The Shakers are among the best-known craftspeople in American history; their legacy includes fine examples of woodworking, textile arts, basket making, metal work, music, gardening, cooking and more.

We are pleased to feature Shaker-inspired workshops by some of the area's best-known instructors and artists and look forward to the possibility of you joining us! Please complete this form to submit your idea(s) for a workshop and we will be in touch to discuss details.

Instructors determine the minimum and maximum class size based on the project and their capacity to serve everyone. This may also be influenced by the facility/room that your class gets placed in.

We recommend that beginner classes have a limited amount of specialized supplies needed to be supplied from home, as this can be daunting to participants just getting started in this medium. 

Instructors determine the base fee per student for the class. That fee is typically doubled to establish the base price for the workshop and the instructor's supply fee is added, which is paid entirely to the instructor. That becomes the retail price.

For example, if you wanted $30 per student, no materials fee, the retail price would be $60. $30 paid to you and $30 retained by Shaker Village.

If you added a supply fee of $15 per student, the retail price would be $75. $45 paid to you ($30 base + $15 supplies) and Shaker Village would retain $30.

Friends of the Shakers members receive $5 off workshop fees but this does not affect the instructor pay, the discount will come out of our commission. Instructors will be paid on the day of their workshop by check. W4s will be collected.

Workshops can be any day of the week and time, excluding Sundays and holidays. We will work with you to pick a final date & time that is mutally beneficial according to room availability and promotional lead time.

Building access will be made available 1-hour before the start time or can be arranged the day before.
