    Arts and Letters Scholarship Application

     

  • INFORMATION AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLYING FOR THE EAST POINT/ COLLEGE PARK ALUMNAE CHAPTER SCHOLARSHIP

  • The East Point/College Park Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. presents the Youth Art Scholarship.

    Eligibility:

    • African American graduating students living in the East Point/College Park service areas of Clayton, Fayette and South Fulton Counties.
    • Preparing to pursue an undergraduate degree full-time at a fully accredited art college, college or university.
    • Pursuing a degree in the Arts (i.e Performing arts, Visual Art or Music).
    • Exhibit leadership and be active in the community.
    • Applicant must have a minimum 2.5 cumulative Grade Point Average on a 4.0 scale.

    Application Materials

    1. Submit a letter of recommendation from art, drama, dance or music teacher from your high school.

    2. Upload an official transcript.

    3. Upload your acceptance letter from accredited art college, college, or university.

    4. List work experience, extracurricular activities, honors, community service and special skills.

    5. Provide video of performance (not to exceed 2 minutes) or sample of artwork.

    6. Submit a recent professional photograph suitable for publication, i.e., a graduation or other professional quality photograph in which the dress is formal.

     

  • Complete online application must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on or before the deadline of March 1st.

    Omission of any part of the application will eliminate the applicant from consideration.

    Parent/Guardian of applicant must sign Disbursement of Scholarship Funds Agreement.

    Scholarship funds will be dispersed upon receiving a letter verifying the recipient's enrollment at an accredited two- or four-year college or university. The enrollment verification form must be completed by the institution and contain: (a) the registrar's signature and (b) the official seal ofthe institution. Scholarship checks will be made payable to the recipient and the college/university.

    Performing Art Sample Requirements

    1.Select a genre under which you wish to be reviewed based on the sample you are providing.

    2. Performing Art sample must be from the 2025 - 2026 academic school year.

    3. At the beginning of your sample, record a 20 second introduction ("elevator speech") including the following information:

    Your name

    School name

    Identify the piece you will perform or the name of your art piece

    4. Read the below sample requirements for each genre and submit a sample accordingly.

     

  • Area Requirements

  • Acting

    Submit a sample of one piece (monologue or piece from a film)

    Do not submit snippets of various performances

     Dance

    Submit a sample of one piece and not a snippet of various choreography

    Inform the reviewers if you or someone else choregraphed the piece

     Music

    Submit  a sample of one piece, and not a snippet of various other performance pieces

    Your instrumental performance should easily heard and identified wihtin the piece

     Musical Theatre

    Your sample should include part of a monologue followed by a movement component (song and/or dance).

    Well-known pieces for your monologue and song/dance is stronly suggested.

     Theatre

    Submit a sample of one piece, and not snippets of various other performance pieces.

    Your sample should include (1) a monologue and (2) a piece from a play.

     Voice (Classical, Gospel, Jazz, Standard)

    Submit a sample of one piece, and not snippets of various vocal pieces.

    A well-known piece within your specific vocal genre is strongly suggested over an original piece.

  • Video Tips

    • You should be easily identified in your sample. Reviewers should not have to search for you and determine which performer you are in an ensemble
    • Similarly, it is strongly suggested that you submit a sample with few, if any, other performers sharing the stage with you. This ensures reviewers can (1) identify you and (2) focus on your performance without taking into consideration the performance of your peers also presented in the sample.  If you submit a group performance, please do not include sections where you are not present in the performance.
    • Be aware of the audio and lighting in your sample. Your sample should be well-lit, clean, and look as professional as you can make it. Presentation is important.

    Please follow the below instructions.
  • Letter of recommendation from an art, drama, dance or music teacher from your school.  The letter must be typed, signed and placed on letterhead.  The letters should be addressed to East Point/College Park Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and include:

    • Name and occupation of reference
    • The name of the applicant
    • How long the reference has known the applicant
    • Information regarding why the applicant should receive the scholarship award

    Agreement for Disbursement of Scholarship Funds

    I,  __________________________ (Parent/Guardian), acknowledge and understand that the scholarship awards will only be disbursed in a lump sum payment directly to the college/university identified by the scholarship recipient (Student's Name) _______________.

    Scholarships will be awarded upon verification of enrollment from a college or university. Verification entails an enrollment form completed by the institution with the registrar's signature and official seal of the institution.

    Scholarship disbursements are mailed to institutions October 1 - April 1 annually. East Point/College Park Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated does not meet during the months of June, July and August; therefore, scholarship payments will not be processed during that period. 

    Scholarship Awards must be claimed by April 1st of the following year or the award will be forfeited. No exceptions.
