  • Heritage (noun): Valued objects and qualities such as historic buildings and cultural traditions that have been passed down from previous generations legacy/history.

    Community (noun): A unified body of individuals that interact with common interests, values or origin.

    Service (noun): The action of helping or doing work for someone in the spirit of favor or kindness.

  • INTRODUCTION

  • The purpose of the Freistadt Heritage Foundation (FHF) Board is to operate and maintain the Lindenwood School and promote and educate others on the cultures within the Freistadt community, primarily made up of immigrants from Pomerania and Germany. As a component of its Constitution, the FHF is also dedicated to cultural exchanges with similar groups from German and northern European countries with the goal of promoting and encouraging interactions that place our collective heritage in a positive light.

  • THE SCHOLARSHIP

  • The Peter Randall Memorial Scholarship is an annual award given to young people with the purpose of funding academic and technical higher education. It honors Pete Randall's lifetime of service, teaching and dedication to his own German heritage. The fund was established by the Freistadt Heritage Foundation through donations recognizing Pete's 37-year membership in the Alte Kameraden Band as well as his contributions as an educator in the Mequon-Thiensville School District and as an active participant among the German communities in southeast Wisconsin.

  • WHO QUALIFIES FOR THIS SHOLARSHIP?

  • Applicants must either be a senior in high school or currently enrolled in post-secondary education with a minimum 3.0 GPA and clearly demonstrate in writing, a commitment of service to others and the promotion of cultural understanding of their own ethnic heritage or ties to their community by meeting any of the specific qualifications below. Outstanding candidates will be able to communicate examples of their service to others, their ties to family heritage and their community and how these ties have impacted their plans for the future as well as their interactions with various cultural organizations in a compelling manner.

  • QUALIFICATION SPECIFICS

  • Please choose one or more of the following categories, describing your service to others and levels of participation within your own community. ALTE KAMERADEN: Actively participate as a leader or advocate in band, orchestra, music performance or music education classes and/or music organizations at the collegiate level. POMMERSCHER VEREIN FREISTADT: Be able to document or describe their connection to German, Pomeranian, Northern European heritage and folk culture. POMMERSCHE TANZDEEL FREISTADT: Actively participate in Fine Arts programs at the collegiate level including, but not limited to Dance, Choir or Theater. LINDENWOOD 4-H: Be able to describe their commitment and desire for a career path featuring a focus on agribusiness or other vocational or technical career interest and the impact 4-H had on their lives.

  • THE APPLICATION PROCESS

  • 1. Obtain an application and review the requirements to ensure this scholarship is for you. Qualified candidates will demonstrate their understanding of these requirements in writing. Fill out the application and attach any supporting documents. If you would like to fill out a physical copy of the form, you can get it here. Preference may be given to candidates who qualify in more than one category or have demonstrated outstanding levels of service in their community. Letters of reference are welcome.

    2. Submit your application with supporting information to the FHF Board on or before the deadline of March 15 each year.

  • THE AWARD

  • The award will be distributed at the Freistadt Heritage Fundraiser, traditionally held in April of each year. Checks will be made out directly to the award winner. Award winners will be notified prior to the event. The awarded sum begins at $500, but may be matched by other contributions and donations from the organizations that reside within the Lindenwood School or other donors and sponsors in future years.
