Moving Forward | Next Steps
How can allies, those with privilege, policies and systems best support your community in addressing discrimination and bias? (mark all that apply)
Encourage policymakers, business owners and leaders of institutions to address structural elements and foundational racial hierarchies which shape their systems and operational activities.
Review, update, transform and dismantle policies and institutions that undergird racial hierarchy.
Get involved. Do not just sit on the sidelines and wait for others to bring about change, but think things through and come up with equitable and easy-to-manage solutions.
Improve data and administrative databases to include race, ethnicity and the measurement of structural racism and their harmful effects
Support efforts and create opportunities to measure, identify and document occurrences, effects and impacts of discrimination, bias and racism on individuals, racialized and marginalized communities and organizations/institutions
Inspire mainstream individuals, organizations, institutions, and communities to change their mindset and move beyond education and insight by engaging in active engagement, changing social norms, and developing policies and revising them so racism and its negative impacts can be dismantled
Establish rigorous and clear standards for publishing research, discovery journals, commentaries and editorials on racial inequities and reflections that recognize and acknowledge the harm caused by the uncritical use of racial categories that perpetuates implicit assumptions about racial differences.
Recruit, hire and promote qualified racialized and marginalized individuals to address the growing underrepresentation and inadequate pool of qualified applicants
What tools, methods or policies can support your move forward with addressing discrimination and bias?
Hills and Valleys Nonprofit Organization acknowledges that these questions are just a starting point. We will take action to address the issues that are raised.
