  • German Shepherd Dog Rescue of Georgia Fostering Agreement

  • German Shepherd Dog Rescue Group of Georgia, Inc., herein known as GSDRGA, in consideration of the agreement with:

  • Herein known as the Foster Caregiver, will abide by the terms of this agreement set forth herein:

The Foster Caregiver agrees to abide by the terms of the temporary care arrangement listed below:

    1.  Basic care: The Foster Caregiver will provide adequate food, water, basic medical care, hygiene, socialization, training and exercise appropriate to the age and condition of the GSD as agreed upon by GSDRGA. The food, medical care, and any needed equipment to care for the GSD will be paid or reimbursed by GSDRGA only with a signed amendment to this agreement for each GSD that payments or reimbursements are applicable.

    2.  Housing: To ensure emotional well-being, the GSD will be housed primarily or be allowed to spend a minimum of 4-6 hours indoors daily as a companion. The foster home must be adequately heated and cooled as to maintain a comfortable environment. If applicable, the outdoor shelter must maintain a temperature between 45-85 degrees. At any temperature above or below this range, the GSD must be housed inside the home. The GSD will be provided safe resting space free from harassment from children and/or other animals in the foster home. The GSD will be allowed free outside only within a fenced or confined/controlled area or under direct leash control. The Foster Caregiver authorizes GSDRGA to conduct an inspection of the Foster Home in accordance with the GA Department of Agriculture regulations. The Foster Home will have at least one fully functioning fire extinguisher and two operable smoke detectors. All shelter areas will be cleaned daily as need and disinfected at least weekly to prevent odors and spread of bacteria.

    3.   Control: The GSD WILL NOT BE KEPT ON A CHAIN, ROPE OR OTHER TIE-OUT DEVICE. The GSD WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO RUN LOOSE and will be kept under leash and voice control AT ALL TIMES when not within a fenced or confined area. Should the GSD escape the foster home, GSDRGA will be notified within 12 hours. Foster will contact/visit county animal control shelter if GSD is not found within 48 hours.

    4.  Safety:  GSDRGA recognizes and reminds the Foster Caregiver that German Shepherd Dogs are large, strong dogs with high pain tolerance. Children and small or weak adults may have trouble controlling a German Shepherd Dog that is excited or frightened. Therefore, for the safety of children and the GSD, the Foster Caregiver agrees not to allow a child younger than 12 years old to walk or otherwise handle the GSD without the direct supervision of a responsible adult. The Foster Caregiver further agrees to use good judgment in allowing children between 12 and 18 to handle the GSD.  Direct supervision is recommended for a child of any age or an adult who is unknown to or unfamiliar with the GSD.

    5. Transfer of Ownership: The Foster Caregiver agrees to return the GSD to GSDRGA immediately on demand or in the event that the foster care arrangement becomes inappropriate, inadequate or disagreeable to the Foster Caregiver or GSDRGA.  The GSD is not to be moved to another foster home without the direct permission of GSDRGA.

    6.  Notice of Death: GSDRGA will be notified within 12 hours of the death of the GSD from any cause. The Foster Caregiver will not have the GSD euthanized without the permission of GSDRGA. THE ONLY EXCEPTION will be in the event that the GSD is seriously injured, untreatable, and in pain, in which case a veterinarian’s recommendations will be followed. GSDRGA must be notified within 12 hours of such an event and a written statement must be provided within 48 hours. The statement must include the veterinarian’s name, address and telephone number. A statement including the veterinarian’s signature is requested.

    7. Reservation of Rights: GSDRGA reserves the right to an ongoing review of the foster care arrangement and to follow up on any complaints or reports to protect the welfare of the GSD. If the terms of this agreement are not satisfactorily upheld by the Foster Caregiver, and/or if any misrepresentation has been made to GSDRGA in order to obtain the GSD, GSDRGA reserves the right to void the contract and demand the return of the GSD to GSDRGA. The Foster Caregiver will be responsible for all costs incurred by GSDRGA to enforce this contract and recover the GSD. The Foster Caregiver will consent to foster home inspections twice annually in accordance with the GA shelter licensing agreement.

The Foster Caregiver does hereby release and hold harmless GSDRGA and its representatives from any claims, damages, costs, or actions incurred as a result of the GSD foster care arrangement.

The Foster Caregiver agrees to the best of their ability to provide a safe and secure temporary home for the GSD, while exercising caution and concern when allowing potential adopters and other individuals unknown to interact with the GSD.
