Join us and invite others to this Opening Reception at the GHG Barn*. Every artist must agree to sign up here to volunteer, bring wine and/or other refreshments. Also, competition winners will receive their prizes donated by local sponsors.

May 18, 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm artists to remove all unsold artwork from the GHG Barn*
*Great Hollow Gatehouse Barn at the Great Hollow Nature Preserve, 225 CT-37, New Fairfield, CT 06812. At the bottom of the hill of the main entrance, turn left, last building on right.
Contract
The ARTIST and The Great Hollow Photography Club ("GHPC") agree to the following pertaining to "the Show" held as described in the above schedule.
1. Warranty
ARTIST hereby warrants that he/she solely created and possesses unencumbered title to the artwork submitted and entered into the Show ("Artworks"), that their descriptions are true and accurate, and that the ARTIST has obtained all necessary licenses, clearances, and/or permissions for the use of all material contained in the Artworks, and that the Artworks in no way contain material that infringes upon the rights of others, including but not limited to material that is an invasion of privacy or publicity rights or that is protected by copyright, trademark, or other proprietary rights, or is derivative thereto. ARTIST agrees that all images submitted may be used for publicity of the Show. ARTIST hereby agrees to indemnify and hold The GHPC harmless from and against any related claims and/or liability.
2. Display and Transportation Responsibilities
All Artworks must be delivered to and removed from the Great Hollow Barn as described in the above Schedule ("Location").
All Artwork must be securely wired from side to side for hanging: i.e., no saw-tooth hangers. The largest framed dimension of any Artwork shall not exceed thirty (30) inches. Failure to meet both these requirements shall disqualify that artwork from being exhibited and the hanging fee will be forfeited.
GHPC will hang the show, and the artist is welcome to join, but not required. The GHPC has the final decision regarding the display and placement of the Artworks.
3. Responsibility for Loss or Damage
ARTIST agrees to indemnify and hold harmless GHPC, the Great Hollow Nature Preserve ("GHNP"), its members, volunteers, and employees from and against any and all adjudicated claims and/or liability including but not limited to theft, destruction, damage or loss of any Artworks displayed or stored at The Location, and any injury to third parties arising from flaws, defects or dangerous conditions of, related to or within the Artworks.
The Artist is responsible for their own insurance.
GHPC and GHNP do not provide insurance or compensation of any kind against fire, theft of or damages to your artwork on display at The Location.
Work not picked up after five (5) days after the end of the show becomes the property of GHPC.
4. Contract Duration and Termination
a) The duration of this contract extends from when the ARTIST makes the entry fee payment through the completion of the terms of this contract unless other arrangements have been made in writing.
b) Notwithstanding any other provision of this Contract, this Contract may be terminated at any time by either the GHPC or the ARTIST, through written notification of termination from either party to the other.
5. Sale of ARTWORK
a) All Artworks must be for sale.
b) GHPC shall sell the Artworks only at the retail price specified in the Submission form by the ARTIST.
c) The commission is to be twenty-five percent (25%) of the retail price of the Artwork.
d) No later than the fifteenth (15th) day of the month following the show, GHPC will send the proceeds from the sale of the Artwork minus commission to the ARTIST.
e) In association with the Sherman Artists Association, Inc., the GHPC handles all aspects of the sale of the Artworks.
f) Following the sale of any of the Artworks, any costs and liabilities related to the removal from installation(s), as well as personal supervision of such removal from installation(s) shall be the sole responsibility of the ARTIST.
6. Entry Fee and Volunteering
The ARTIST agrees to pay GHPC an entry fee of $15 per artwork via the GHPC payment form. The ARTIST agrees to sign up here to volunteer, bring wine and/or other refreshments.
Competition Details
All accepted Artwork will be considered for the competition. Prizes for first, second and third place for both painting and photography will be donations from local businesses. Artists are welcome to propose additional sponsors.
Additionally, winners and honorable mentions will be invited to participate in a follow-up physical and virtual show at the Sherman Library in Sherman, CT in late summer.
The artwork shall highlight the richness of the rural nature in and around Great Hollow. The ARTIST agrees that no submitted Artwork has been included in a previous GHPC Show.The artwork will be judged by the following criteria:
Creativity: The artwork should demonstrate the artist’s unique perspective, imagination and skillful use of the medium’s tools and techniques.
Story-telling: The artwork should draw in the viewer and invite interpretation, discovery and, perhaps, be powerful enough to evoke an emotional response.
Skills: The artwork should convey the artist’s understanding of composition [include only those details that are important to the composition or message], perspective, selective focus, figure-ground relationships, lighting, texture, structure, and contrast.
Jurors for the artwork are Ned Reade for painting and Lori Adams for photography.
