• Phi Iota Chapter - Dr. Benjamin M. Harrison, Jr. Scholarship - 2026

  • This year we will award one $2500 scholarship to a deserving incoming junior or senior collegiate student currently enrolled in a 4-year college/university located in the Greater Phoenix Metropolitan area majoring in Criminal Justice, Psychology or Sociology.

    Applicants must meet the following criteria

    • Incoming junior OR senior collegiate students currently enrolled in a 4-year college/university located in the Greater Phoenix area majoring in Criminal Justice, Psychology or Sociology

    And also:

    • Be a U.S. Citizen, legal permanent resident or an eligible non-U.S. citizen
    • Must have a record of volunteerism in the community in non-school sponsored activities.
    • Must have a record of participation in extracurricular school activities.
    • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 scale or equivalent.
    • Must have the recommendation of a Guidance Counselor or Academic Advisor

    Before You Begin

    You should have the following documents ready for upload before you begin this application:

    Essay/Personal Statement-Upload an essay/personal statement that has one-inch margins on all sides, is double-spaced, grammatically correct, typed in Times New Roman 11-12 pt. font, does not exceed 2 pages, and includes your name and essay title on each page. Your essay/personal statement (500 word minimum) must address the following questions:

    1. Why do you think community service is important and what steps have you taken or actions would you implement to make a positive impact within the low socioeconomic communities?

    2. What originally drew you to this field and how has your perspective changed since you started studying it?

    3. How would you apply what you’re learning to make a meaningful difference and address a real-world problem, rather than just analyze it?

    Two (2) Recommendation Letters:

    • A letter of recommendation from an academic officer (principle, dean, teacher/counselor/advisor) must accompany this application.
    • A letter of recommendation from a leader of a civic, community, or fraternal organization in your community must accompany this application.
