Externs are able to observe doctors in the following departments.

Surgery Observe various types of surgery, anesthesia, endoscopies, imaging, lameness evaluations and occasional farm calls.

Internal Medicine Observe medicine procedures/emergencies as biosecurity allows (certain barns have limited access), outpatient cases, neurology, imaging and occasional farm calls.

Ambulatory Ride with an ambulatory clinician to local farms. Ride-a-long may include reproduction, dentisty, field emergencies and sport horse medicine. You may be expected to meet the practicioner at a farm away from the hospital.

Theriogenology Travel on the road with a theriogenologist or observe in the on-site lab while they are preforming advanced reproduction techniques. (Lexington and Wellington only)

Podiatry Observe veterinarians who specialize in podiatry and/or blacksmiths either on the road or in the hospital. (Lexington and Saratoga only)
