The Virginia Chess Federation (VCF) thanks you for your interest and participation in our tournaments! Registering and paying in advance saves your time and that of our organizers. "Thank you!" All players in good standing with the USCF, from any state, are welcome to participate in our chess tournaments.
ELIGIBILITY: To play, your age must be over 50 as of June 2nd, 2023. The VA Senior Open is a US Chess and FIDE rated event. FIDE Rules are in effect, and the "no-show / forfeit" time is ONE HOUR after the announced start time for each round. Round 1 is at 6:30PM on Friday evening.
TO REGISTER: Fill out the form below and submit payment using the secure PayPal payment website. You can either use your Credit Card or your PayPal account. Required information is indicated with a red asterisk (*). Registration is complete and your information is submitted to tournament organizers as soon as your PayPal payment is processed.
On-line registration is available @ $70 until midnight on Saturday May 27th. Beginning Sunday May 28th and on-site, Registration is $90. On-Site Registration will be open 4-6:15PM Friday evening at the event hotel and then from 7:30-9:15AM on Saturday morning (for anyone who wants to enter before Round 2). ROUND 1 is at 7PM on FRIDAY EVENING, June 2nd.
One 1/2-point Bye is allowed in any round of the tournament, including Round 5. Half-point Byes must be decleared 30 min before the start of Round 2.
RE-ENTRY is available after Round 1 for $35, which re-enters you into the tournament with 1/2 point for Round 1. Re-entering players may not take any additional 1/2-point byes.
The Time Control for all 5 rounds is Game-90 with 30 seconds of time increment. You are allowed to use your own chess equipment and clock. Clocks must be increment capable. We have a limited supply to loan out, so please bring your own clock.
All Players must be members of the U.S. Chess Federation to play. USCF membership can be purchased with cash or check on-site. Virginia Residents are required to have current VCF Memberships. These memberships can be purchased onsite.
