  • Founded in 1918, Mortar Board is a national honor society recognizing college seniors for their exemplary scholarship, leadership, and service. For over 105 years, collegiate Mortar Board chapters across the United States choose rising seniors as members who exemplify the ideals of Mortar Board. We are currently accepting applications.

    Please consider applying if you have a true love of learning, have a demonstrated commitment to leadership, and have served your campus and/or community with distinction. Mortar Board members are selected for their outstanding achievements, but what truly brings members together is their dedication to helping others. This community of scholars creates change for good, whether on their college campuses, in their communities, or at a global level.

    Mortar Board membership is a lifelong distinction that sets students apart from their peers by not only recognizing excellence in scholarship, leadership, and service, but by providing members opportunities for personal and professional development both during their collegiate membership and beyond.

    Mortar Board is a non-profit society accredited by the Association of College Honor Societies, the leading certifying body for honor societies, and works in accordance with the mission of the Council for Advancement of Standards (CAS) standards for College Honor Societies.   • Academic Profile Information

    Please answer to the best of your ability. Mortar Board selection is based on a few factors, including academic success. Mortar Board members must be in the top 35% of the rising senior class or have a B average, which ever is higher. Candidates can petition for a scholarship exception if academic minimums are not met.

    In addition to academic achievements, Mortar Board selects members based on a accomplishments in, and a sustained commitment to, leadership and service.   • Mortar Board membership is a lifelong distinction that sets students apart from their peers by not only recognizing excellence in scholarship, leadership, and service, but by providing members opportunities for personal and professional development both during their collegiate membership and beyond.

     

    Members selected from chapters that are currently active will participate as part of their campus chapter and national society. 

     

    Members selected from chapters that are currently inactive will participate as part of a National Chapter / At-Large Chapter. Members will still receive all the member benefits of students on campuses with active chapters. However, members of the National Chapter / At-Large Chapter may not be eligible to vote as an official delegate on certain Society-wide governance issues per our Bylaws. 

     

    All students selected for Mortar Board membership, are expected to engage as part of their Local, National, and/or At-Large Chapter. At-Large meetings will take place virtually (via zoom) approximately once a month, with chapters also engaging as part of their associated geographic Mortar Board Region. Additional society wide opportunities and professional development sessions are often made available to members.

  • Membership Dues

    Please be aware that in order to activate your membership account you must pay a one-time national dues payment in the amount of $100 dollars. Note: Active campus-based chapters may also collect local dues. We never want financial barriers to keep anyone from membership, so if you have any questions or need financial assistance please contact the National Office (614-488-4094) or chapters@mortarboard.org.
