As part of my request to participate in the Greensboro Fire Department’s Citizen Ride-Along Program, the following considerations will apply:
1. Participation in this program is a privilege and courtesy extended by the Greensboro Fire Department. As such, the Greensboro Fire Department reserves the right to modify, control, deny, or cancel an individual’s participation at any time as outlined in departmental guidelines.
2. Citizens requesting to participate in a ride-a-long cannot ride with a family member, nor can they bring a friend. Ride-alongs are one indiviual per station.
3. The Greensboro Fire Department will conduct an inquiry into an applicant’s suitability to participate in the program, including a criminal history inquiry to be conducted by the Greensboro Police Department. The Greensboro Fire Department will refuse to approve participation where there are reasonable or documented circumstances which indicate that such participation would not be in the best interest of the Department.
4. Each participant is under the direct and complete control of the officer to which assigned. An officer experiencing difficulty with a participant has the prerogative to immediately terminate participation in the program.
5. All participants will function as an observer only. Participants are not permitted to: (a)Take part in any fire suppression action (b) Enter any residential or commercial structure responded to (c)Assist with any medical emergency (d)Operate any fire apparatus or vehicle (e)Handle any fire equipment (f)Perform any other Fire related task or function.
6. Suitable dress and personal hygiene are required. Riders must wear comfortable, casual business attire, which includes neat jeans, khakis or dress pants and collared shirts, turtlenecks and sweaters. Prohibited are ripped jeans, revealing clothing, open-toed shoes, shorts, dresses or skirts, beach wear, athletic wear, public safety clothing or equipment, and clothing items with advertising or inflammatory images or statements.
7. Participants cannot carry weapons during the ride-along.
8. Should a situation arise that would expose the participant to undue danger, violence or other hazardous condition, participants may be temporarily discharged at a suitable location. Communications should be notified of such action.
