"Western Mensurationists Lifetime Achievement Award” honors scientists that contributed significantly to the quantitative aspects of the western American forestry. The award aims at researchers that are associated with the Western Mensurationists group and have shaped the forest research of/from the western region of North America.
The award is given only once to an individual. The selection process starts by polling all the mensurationists associated with the Western Region of North America. Next, the nominations are ranked according to the number of votes. The person with the largest number of votes is then validated by the Lifetime Achievement award committee. For the first three editions of the award, the members of the committee are the previous recipients of the SOMENS Achievement Award and Dr. Strimbu, who is the chair of both committees (SOMENS and WESTERN MENS).
