  • Carnegie Museum of Art Teen Application - Youth Advisory Council

  • Description: Youth Advisory Council members will closely assist the Manager of Youth Programs and Museum Educators to curate and execute the annual Youth Exhibition. YAC will also plan and facilitate Youth Exhibition Celebration event spaces and activities. Participants will receive a stipend of $250 for their contributions.

    Dates: 

    ·       Saturday, March 7, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

    ·       Thursday, March 12, 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

    ·       Thursday, March 19, 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

    ·       Saturday, March 21, 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

    Availability: Participants must be available for all of the listed dates

    Age: Students in grades 11-12 who are currently enrolled in Youth Art Studio 

    Application deadline: February 19, 2026

    As Youth Art Council member, you will:

    • Learn from experts regarding curating, art preparation and exhibition and shape the youth exhibition through the application of this new knowledge.
    • Brainstorm marketing strategies and youth-based activities for event.
    • Execute an interactive gallery component, write extended wall labels, and a facilitate artmaking activities at the events. 

    Qualifications:

    • A current Youth Art Studio participant in grades 11-12.
    • Works well with others and can take direction from instructors and staff.
    • If accepted, all volunteer candidates must participate in an interview.

    Important Information:

    As required by PA Act 153, selected candidates will be required to complete an official registration process and series of background checks as part of their onboarding process coordinated by the Volunteer Office. Parental or guardian consent is required to administer background checks for individuals under the age of 18. Teens under the age of 18 must also provide a PA work permit for minors and a signed parental acknowledgement form. This opportunity is paid a stipend and requires a completed W9 tax form.

    I understand that as a volunteer or participant I am not entitled to monetary compensation (unless stated in my official program agreement form) for any duties I perform and I am not entitled to worker’s compensation or group benefits in the event of injury. (Work-study students will be paid directly by their university.) 

    The Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh Volunteer Program reserves the right to an evaluation sometime after placement and the right to terminate services should responsibilities not be fulfilled satisfactorily.

    In accordance with Pennsylvania Act 153, I understand and agree that a criminal background check is a condition of my volunteer service. Per the direction of Volunteer Office's official registration process, I will complete the required clearances at my own expense. (Teen volunteers and participants under 18 years of age must provide consent from a parent or legal guardian before accepting a volunteer assignment. Parental or guardian approval is required for criminal background checks of minors.)
