  • The WEST VALLEY EDUCATION FOUNDATION was created to enrich and help maximize the quality of education in the schools of the district by providing financial support for programs that assist in achieving academic excellence.  To this end, the Foundation developed the Student Academic Scholarship Program. 

    The West Valley Education Foundation Academic Scholarship Program is expected to financially assist qualified applicants in obtaining degrees or certificates from accredited academic institutions of higher learning or career and technical institutions.  The program is open to any student preparing to enter or already attending these institutions.

    Scholarships Covered by this Application

    This application may be used for applying to one or multiple scholarship programs overseen by The West Valley Education Foundation. The scholarships covered by this application are:

    • West Valley Education Foundation Scholarship (up to fifteen awards of $1,500 each available)
    • Crowley Scholarship (two awards of $1,500 each available)
    • Elberta Walker Memorial Scholarship (one award of $1,000 available)
    • Gerald and Sandra Bishop Scholarship (up to two awards of $2,500 each available)
    • Jack Spring Memorial Scholarship (one award of $1,000 available)
    • Jeremy McSpadden Jr. Memorial Scholarship (up to $1000 in total awards)
    • Jerry Harrington Memorial Scholarship (one award of $1,000 available)
    • Liberg Memorial Scholarship (up to two awards of $500 available)
    • McLachlan Gorton Scholarship (one award of $1,500 available)
    • Oka Leadership and Integrity Award (one award of $1,500 available)
    • Phipps Draper Scholarship (one award of $1,500 available)
    • Sophie Hawley Memorial Scholarship (up to 5 awards of $1,000 each available and a $2,500 pool available for past WVSD graduates)

    Some scholarship awards do have specific eligibility and application criteria and applicants are required to confirm which scholarship(s) they want to be considered for when they submit their application. 

    Application Process

    Applications should be submitted online by completing this form and ensuring the additional forms referenced in this application are completed by the due date of April 28, 2023. 

    • A completed Application Form (including essay responses)
    • Applicant Appraisal (separate form, link provided below)
    • Official Transcript (separate form, link provided below)
    • Two letters of reference (from those who are not relatives of the candidate) that address the suitability of the candidate for the award, nature of the relationship with the candidate and length of time of the relationship.

    Scholarship Specific Eligibility Criteria

    Please review the Scholarship Eligibility Confirmation page for any specific criteria that must be met to be eligible for scholarship programs covered by this application. Applicants must declare which scholarships they want to be considered for at the time of submitting their application and required materials.

    Continuum Criteria

    Maintain an overall post-secondary GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent each semester
    Receipt of another full-tuition scholarship reduces or eliminates the West Valley Scholarship.

    All materials submitted for consideration for a scholarship automatically become the physical property of the West Valley Education Foundation and will not be returned to the sender.

    To be submitted by a high school counselor, teacher or other contact on behalf of the applicant
  • The Applicant Appraisal is to be completed by a high school or college counselor, advisor, instructor or a supervisor. 

    The Applicant Appraisal form is separate from the Common Application and will be completed anonymously on behalf of the applicant.

  • 7. Transcript Information

    To be submitted by the high school academic advisor, registrar or counselor on behalf of the applicant

  • 8. Letters of Recommendation

  • Applicants must have two(2) letters of recommendation submitted as part of their application packet. Letters can be uploaded separately by sharing the link below with your teacher, counselor or other persons who will provide a letter. Provide the name and email address for the person(s) you will be asking to submit letters and provide them with this link (https://form.jotform.com/230706060796154) to the form in a separate email so they can complete it on your behalf.

  • Please review the eligibility details and select which scholarship(s) you want to be consider for. You may select more that one scholarship provided you meet any specific eligibility requirements for each.

    West Valley Education Foundation

    • Up to fifteen (15) awards of $1,500 each available
    • Available to past WVSD graduates who meet continuum criteria

    Crowley Scholarship

    • Two (2) awards of $1,500 each available

    Elberta Walker Memorial Scholarship

    • One (1) award of $1,000 available
    • Available to past WVSD graduates who meet continuum criteria

    Jack Spring Memorial Scholarship

    • One (1) award of $1,000 availble
    • Applicant must have a cumulative High School of at least 3.0 and planned enrollment at a college or university

    Jerry Harrington Memorial Scholarship

    • One (1) award of $1,000 available

    Liberg Memorial Scholarship

    • Up to two (2) awards of $500 each available
    • Available to past WVSD graduates who meet continuum criteria

    McLachlan Gorton Scholarship

    • One (1) award of $1,500 available
    • Available to past WVSD graduates who meet continuum criteria
    • Applicants must have lettered in two season in either Cross Country or Track at West Valley High School, have a cumulative High School GPA of at least 3.0 and planned enrollment at a college or university

    Oka Leadership and Integrity Award

    • One (1) award of $1,500 available

    Phipps Draper Scholarship

    • One (1) award of $1,500 available
    • Available to past WVSD graduates who meet continuum criteria
    • Applicant must be a female student, have completed 4 semesters of Science classes during High School, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and planned enrollment at a college or university
  • 10. Jeremy McSpadden Jr. Memorial Scholarship

    Please complete the additional requirements below to apply for this award. Sections 1 through 9 are also required in order to have a complete application submission.
  • Up to two scholarships will be awarded. The total amount available for scholarship awards will be $1000 for the 2023 - 2024 school year.

    Essay Requirements. Select one of the two essay prompts and submit a response to be included with your application form. Maximum of 300 words. Choose one of the two statements below.

  • 11. Sophie Hawley Memorial Scholarship

    Please complete the additional requirements below to apply for this award. Sections 1 through 9 are also required in order to have a complete application submission.
  • Applicants must be planning to pursue the medical field (preferably nursing) as their field of study and profession. While Cardiac or Pediatric nursing are preferred fields of nursing, the application is open to any medical fields and nursing professions an applicant is interested in working in.

    Up to ten scholarships will be awarded based on merit and selection criteria as measured by academic performance and defined extracurricular activities; leadership; and, when appropriate, financial need.

    Scholarships for the 2023 - 2024 school year will be awarded in the quantities and amounts below based on the eligibility criteria for each award

    Up to (5) $1,000 awards for students planning to study in the medical field (other nursing specializations, medical school, neuroscience, anesthesia, etc.)

    Up to (5) $500 awards to a current nursing student

  • Applicants must be planning to pursue a career in medicine, science, social services or education

    Up to two scholarships will be awarded based on merit and selection criteria as measured by academic performance and defined extracurricular activities; leadership; and, when appropriate, financial need.

    Scholarships for the 2023 - 2024 school year will be awarded in the quantities and amounts below based on the eligibility criteria.

    Up to (2) $2,500 awards for students planning to study medicine, science, social services or education fields.
