Book a Wine Tasting in our bar

Our tastings offer a relaxed, fun approach to understanding more about wine, with the emphasis on what you like to drink, how to help you find more of it, and introducing you to some styles you may not have come across before.

Each tasting is led by one of our young team of qualified staff, each one of which genuinely enjoys sharing their own passion and excitement with you (if you don’t believe us, check out the comments on our tastings on Trip Advisor page!)

Weekend Wine Masterclasses (£25 per head)

Similar to our private tastings, these will be intimate affairs where we keep the numbers low to encourage you to get involved, ask questions, and make sure you get the most of the tasting. One of our qualified members of staff will introduce some basics of wine and wine tasting, talk you through six wines, and answer any questions that pop up as we go along. These are relaxed, fun, informal sessions for any level of wine knowledge. The wines will change all the time, and we plan to soon start including specialist sessions on regions/themes, etc.

Private cheese and wine tasting (£35 per head)

We get asked so often to run cheese and wine tastings that we’ve decided to make it a bit more formal and offer cheese and wine matching as one of our private tastings. So, as well as all the bespoke wine tasting session, we include a different cheese to match each wine; giving some information on the cheese and its production, as well as of course discussing the match itself, the thinking behind it, and how well the cheese works with the wine.

Private vegan wine tasting (£32.50 per head)
We’re constantly surprised at just how many great wines are turning out to be vegan these days, and also at how many customers are specifically asking for these wines. So we’ve added this as an option to our private wine tastings. The tastings will be the same format as our private wine tastings as described above, but the wines will all be vegan - and we’ll also explain a little about the specific winemaking processes behind them.

Sparkling Wine Tasting for two people (£35 per head, including half a bottle of Champagne to share)
Perfect for something special for a couple, or something fun and informative to do before dinner or the theatre, our sparkling wine tasting for two is a private hosted tasting lasting around an hour and including three wines, with the last being a half bottle of Champagne, which you can then stay at the table and finish off in your own time. We’ll talk through wine tasting techniques, the history of sparkling wine, as well as discussing each wine and how it’s produced.

Our Sparkling Wine Tasting is not currently available to book online, but please do send us an enquiry using our contact form and we can check availabilty for you.

Wine challenge - £25 p/head, including prize (for larger groups, from 8 people to 30)
See below, also, for our Cheese and wine challenge!

The wine challenge is suited to larger groups (work outings, parties, etc.) and is less ‘hands-on’ than our other tastings (i.e. we’re not interrupting you every 5 minutes to talk about wine!), so people that are interested can ask questions; while those that just want to sit back and enjoy the atmosphere, the wine, and the company can do so. The tasting includes a competitive element, usually done in teams. The price is £25 per head, and includes:
    - Glass of fizz per person on arrival
    - Tasting samples of six wines
    - Olives and crispbreads to nibble on
    - A bottle of fizz for the winning team

Cheese and wine challenge - £30 p/head, including prize (for larger groups, from 8 people to 30)
A number of people have asked if we can incorporate a cheese matching element into our wine challenges, so we’re now officially offering this - as well as the wine challenge as above, we’ll include an introduction to the ‘rules’ of cheese and wine matching, serve a different cheese with each wine, and talk you through why we’ve matched them up.

    Wine Tasting FAQs

How long in advance do I need to book?
At least a few days advance notice will help to make sure we can find a space for you. If we’re already booked up or don’t have qualified staff available, we can’t always guarantee to be able to fit you in, so the more notice you can give us the better!

    How long do tastings last?
We tend to let you dictate the pace of private tastings, and they can last for more or less time depending on how much chatting there is and how quickly you’re drinking! On average, however, tastings last roughly 2 hours. If you have a deadline and need us to stick to a specific timing, just let us know.

Can I bring someone along who’s not tasting?
The way we offer tastings means it’s difficult not to include everyone sitting at the table, even if they aren’t drinking! The charge for tasting is related just as much to the experience and the educational aspect involved as to the actual wine tasted, so it can be a little awkward to have a tasting, particularly with a small group, with members of the group not participating. Therefore, we’ve applied the following to our tasting bookings: if a tasting has at least 6 participants paying full price, we are happy for up to two ‘extra’ people, not tasting but sitting in, at a cost of £12.50 per person.

Do I need to drink the wine?!?
We always offer spitoons, and if you’re pregnant/driving/would rather not drink you’d be surprised how much you can participate just by smelling and/or spitting out the wine. If you’d rather not spit, we find there’s usually at least one person on the table who’s happy to hoover up any leftovers!

Can I buy a tasting as a present for someone?
Yes indeed, we are more than happy to book a tasting and give you a voucher with all the details to give to your friend, alternatively we can just write ‘wine tasting’ and a value and leave it for them to book at their convenience.

How many wines will I taste?
That depends on the type of tasting - details are given under each heading on our tasting page. Six wines is the norm, with some tastings also including a glass of fizz on arrival.

What will I be tasting? Can I taste whatever I like?
We find that the best tastings are usually a mix of what people already know, as well as a few surprises. If you would like a completely bespoke tasting, please get in touch with us for a quote.
