  • What is Chief for a Day? - 

    Chief for a Day is hosted by Walla Walla Area Crime Watch. It is an event that is all about celebrating the lives of children who have been diagnosed with a disability or life-threatening or chronic medical condition. It is the mission of Chief for a Day to help these children and their families to forget about any challenges they may be dealing with, even if only for one day.

    Participating Agencies - 

    Walla Walla Police Department, College Place Police Department, Washington State Patrol, Washington State Penitentiary, Walla Walla County Sheriff's Office, Walla Walla Fire District 4, Walla Walla and College Place City Fire and Columbia County Sheriff's Office.

    Who can be nominated? - 

    Children in grades 4 - 8, who currently have a permanent disability* or chronic health condition** are eligible. A selection committee will pair the selected student with an emergency services agency.

    Exceptions - 

    Students with special health conditions outside of the age limitation may receive priority depending on the emergency services agency and Chief for a Day selection committee.

  • Definition of disability or chronic heath condition:

    *Disability: child who currently has a permanent disability. For example but not limited to: Downs syndrome, Autism, or cerebral palsy. **Chronic Health Condition: A child who has a chronic or life threatening health condition. For example but not limited to: Cancer or childhood arthritis

    Please keep in mind that the child you are nominating must be able to tolerate loud noises, wear a uniform, pose for individual and group pictures, and able to sit through a swearing in ceremony on a hot summer day.
