    Candidates for 2023

    Gabriel “Gabe” Briones

My name is Gabriel (Gabe) Briones, My wife Norma and I married for 52 years, moved back to San Antonio from the Greater New Orleans area 15 years ago.

I retired from the Air Force with 27 ½ years. After my career in the Air Force I taught Junior ROTC for seven years at Edna Karr Secondary School in New Orleans, La.

It has been a pleasure serving on the Board these last 4 years. I have met so many of our wonderful Great Northwest residents.

As a Board member, I have served as a Liaison to the Great Northwest Watch, Coffee with Cops, Citizens on Patrol, Presiding at our Veterans Day Celebration, and Coordinator for our 4th of July Parade for the past 5 years, and volunteered for the Easter Egg hunt, Trick or Treat Halloween and Winter Wonderland on Christmas. These are a few of the functions that I am proud to have served and volunteered on for the past 4 years on the Board.

If reelected to the Board I will continue to serve the Great Northwest to the best of my ability and work hard to earn your approval.

    Essy Lechon

A resident of Great Northwest for 25 years, my wife of 38 years and our children have grown up enjoying the benefits GNW provides.  While living in GNW I have been involved in many activities, most notably the children’s athletic programs where it’s been my pleasure to be head or assistant coach on soccer, T-ball and basketball teams, and enjoy helping our children learn to play the sport, try their very best and, to HAVE FUN.  Sports can help to make better students, citizens, and neighbors now and in the future.  For these reasons, I believe our athletic programs deserve strong support and was the main reason I ran for the board many years ago.

I was appointed to an open position on the Board of Directors in 2011 and have now served as your director for 12 years, working to keep the GNW up to the standards we have all come to expect and enjoy.  The current Board of Directors work well with each other allowing us to get things done for the community. if re-elected to the Board I intend to continue to work with my fellow Board Members to keep our community looking and living up to our reputation in the city of San Antonio.

I ask you to trust me for another 3 years as your Director on the Great Northwest’s Board of Directors.

    Donovon Rodriguez

I reside in Silver Creek with my wife Jenny, our two-year-old daughter Evelyn Belle, and we are blessed to be expecting another child.

Born and raised in South Texas to a civil service and military family, I began a career in communications for municipal police and fire departments. I developed an unwavering leadership style in the high stress environment, meticulously guiding teams through high-risk events while protecting law enforcement officers on the job.

Over the last decade I’ve served in both the Senate and House of the Texas Legislature, achieving the rank of Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor. From getting military families the service benefits they deserve, increasing penalties for mailbox theft, funding employee retirement systems, and providing scholarship opportunities for our own GNW students, I will continue to advocate for the needs of our community.

Today I work for a Fortune 300 environmental services company, directly managing a $20 million book of business. I continue to serve in volunteer capacities as President of the Edgewood Education Foundation, the lowest income school district in Texas. An executive board member of the Association of the U.S. Army, the professional association of the U.S. Army; and as a board member for KLRN TV.

With your support, I will represent our neighbors with transparency, fiscal responsibility, and a collaborative approach to working with board members and residents to achieve common goals. Let’s build a stronger community together, I hope to earn your vote on May 4th! You can reach me at 210-385-8606.

    Efrain R. Sosa

Hello, I am, Efrain R. Sosa, a native Southside San Antonian, a Graduate of the Harlandale ISD’s, McCollum High School, and received my Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from The University of the Incarnate Word.

I have lived in the Ridge Creek sub-division of the Great Northwest Community Improvement Association, Inc. since 2002 with my wife and two children.

I am a husband, father, son, nephew, grandson, current Director of the Great Northwest CIA, Board of Trustees Member, parishioner and volunteer at MetaChurch, City of San Antonio Ethics Review Board Member, GNW Soccer Coach, mentor, and businessman.

During my first term with the Great Northwest CIA, I played an integral part in your association. Volunteered at numerous community events, cooked hot dogs for the kiddos, judged the Annual Car Show, hosted a Neighbors Together event at my home, and championed the new Disc Golf Course.

Throughout the year, you can catch me and my family spending time around the GNW attending soccer games, splashing around at the Emerald Valley swimming pool, hanging out at the Kuwamura and Ridge Creek Parks as well as other numerous activities within the community. You may even see me running around the neighborhood from time to time.

Over the past 20 years, not only have I seen my children grow, I have seen the connections, relationships, and neighbors grow as a community. I look forward to the next 20+ years of living and growing together as a community. Thank you, and have a blessed day!

    Oscar "Phillip" Aguilar

I was born and raised in Texas, I’ve lived in San Antonio off and on for 26 years. I consider myself an active neighbor attending functions in our Subdivision and in our beautiful City. I choose to live in the Great Northwest because of its continued beauty, the quality of people and its on going growth. Our subdivision is AWESOME!

I currently work for Smith & Nephew as a Procurement Specialist based out of Austin but I work from home fulltime remotely. I have worked in my field of purchasing for over 32 years now so I am very familiar with various functions such as contracts, city laws, Sub-Contractors and working with city leaders. I was a City Council Member for the City of Presidio, Tx back in 2014-2015 as an elected official. I left there to help take care of my parents.

I feel I can help our subdivision in several ways and am open to hearing about your concerns and needs to help our quality of life prosper.  I am asking for your vote to become your newest Director member and work towards simplifying some of our needs and the process in getting things done.
