Maren is the 5-month-old daughter of Logan and Keylee Staigle of Turtle Lake, ND (granddaughter of Wade and Merri Staigle (Center, ND) and Brad and Laurie Odden (Rugby, ND)) During an ultrasound at 29 weeks, it was discovered that Maren had meconium peritonitis resulting in a bowel perforation. Since her birth, she has undergone 2 surgeries to repair her bowel. During the second surgery, surgeons discovered that Maren also has a liver complication, called biliary atresia. A procedure was completed to help correct the liver complications; however, it only works in about 30% of cases. Most children with biliary atresia will need a liver transplant sometime in their life, and in Maren’s case that time will need to come sooner rather later. Maren will need medical teams to manage her care for years to come.
