  • Philosophy of Education

All students can learn. All students have the right to an education that meets their needs and their learning style. Students learn by doing, where they are the leader of their educational journey, and the teacher is the facilitator. They learn best by creating and therefore project-based learning is at the core of every class. Knowledge is not power, applied knowledge is power, so instruction is presented in a way that is applicable and relevant to the world today. The foundation of our program is to teach our students to have a growth mindset, entrepreneurial skills, and leadership – with problem solving, critical thinking, and creativity as the most important traits for children to develop at an early age.

Our students lead their schoolwork instead of following the traditional model which uses mostly abstract knowledge. Instructors are facilitators and students serve as each other’s instructors by collaborating and working together.

    • Students learn by doing, and class work engages students in a way that is applicable to the daily problems of life.
    • Students learn the importance of time management, to budget and use their time efficiently and effectively.
    • Students learn the importance of relationships, proper communication, and how to understand and recognize external influences, to identify those that will be beneficial or detrimental to their development.
    • Students will recognize the concept of being healthy, physically, mentally and emotionally.
    • Students learn the importance of setting goals for themselves and creating plans that will help achieve them.
    • Students will understand the difference between a healthy habit and an unhealthy habit, understand the concept of how they are formed.
    • Students understand that failure only exists when you quit trying. They recognize failure as temporary defeat not a permanent state by giving them the opportunity to reflect on what happened, and how they can change what they did to have success.
    • Students are encouraged to express their own thoughts. They learn to investigate what they are told, and then accept or reject ideas based on their own judgment.
    • Students learn that decision making is an important part of life, and in making decisions they must reflect on the outcomes (opportunities or consequences) and evaluate the decision that will be best for them.
    • Students understand that negative thoughts bring about more negative thoughts and positive thoughts bring about more positive thoughts. The power of their mind and what they can achieve is in their control through their thoughts.
    • Students understand the nature and the value of self-control.
    • Students learn that giving and helping others even when not asked to do so, is a choice that will benefit them in some way.
    • Students understand the idea of going the extra mile to help themselves and those around them. As well, they comprehend that we cannot get something for nothing without giving something in return.
    • Students learn that everything they do to and for another, they do also to and for themselves. They look to lift themselves and those around them.
    • Students learn not to have opinions unless they are formed from facts or beliefs which may reasonably be accepted as facts, understanding that hearing something once doesn’t make it true.
    • Students understand that overindulgence in anything can hurt them and lead to becoming an unhealthy habit. By explaining why, students can make better choices and help avoid the dangers of these habits.
    • Students learn to face facts, whether they are pleasant or unpleasant.
    • Students learn the importance of the law of compensation as it shows that what you put in, you will get out, however much or little. The more effort put into what they do, the greater return they will see, and vice versa.
    • Students learn that there is no problem which does not have an appropriate solution and that the solution is often found in the problem itself.
    • Students accept that the real limitations are those which they give themselves or allow others to put on them. They understand that they can achieve whatever goal they set for themselves if they believe in themselves.
    • Students realize that what is taught is just the beginning of what can be learned, and that it is not just learning that is important but the ability to apply that which is learned to the world around them.
    • Students learn to live with integrity being true to themselves and those around them.
    • Students realize that not everyone will be kind and pleasing, however, they learn that it has nothing to do with them personally, and we can only control how we feel, not what others feel.
