    Each year, the College of Southern Maryland's Student Government Association (SGA) and the Student Life & Athletics Department celebrate the significant contributions of student leaders, student employees, advisors, clubs, and organizations during the Student Government Banquet. This year, the awards presented will include the President's Cup, Vice President's Cup, Student Employee of the Year, Club Advisor of the Year, Club of the Year, and the Student Development Achievement Award. The banquet is scheduled for Tuesday, May 6, 2025, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Prince Frederick Event Hall.

  • The President's Cup is awarded to the College's most distinguished student leader, recognizing an individual who exemplifies exceptional leadership and commitment to the college community. The recipient should demonstrate an inspiring ability to motivate and empower peers, fostering a culture of collaboration and inclusivity. This student leader must have dedicated significant time and talent to enhance the college environment, actively participating in extracurricular programs, and initiating impactful projects that address the needs of their fellow students. Additionally, nominees should exhibit a strong commitment to personal and professional development, showcasing resilience, integrity, and a visionary approach to leadership that aligns with the college's values. The ideal recipient will also have a proven track record of advocating for student interests and engaging in community service, making a lasting impact on both the college and the broader community.

  • The Student Government Association proudly honors the exceptional contributions of students to the College, recognizing their impactful roles not only as club members but also as dedicated student employees. Each year, the SGA selects an outstanding individual to receive the prestigious title of CSM Student Employee of the Year. This esteemed recognition celebrates the remarkable commitment, professionalism, and influence that student employees bring to the campus community, highlighting their vital role in enhancing the overall student experience.

  • Nominees/Nominations should meet the following criteria: 

    • Primary role on campus is as a CSM student
    • Currently employed as a "non-fully benefited employee" (e.g. student assistant/temp)
    • Must be in good academic standing (2.5 or higher)
    • Must be enrolled in atleast 6 credits or more (credit not continuing education)
    • Employed by the office or department for a minimum of 2 months
    • Letter of nomination can be from supervisor/co-worker/colleague
    • Nomination must be supported by a letter from the student's direct supervisor
  • Please answer the following questions/statements in your letter of nomination/support: 

    • In what ways has the student employee shown initiative? Please give specific examples. 
    • Discuss ways in which this student contributes to the CSM community both as an employee and as a member of the community. 
    • Describe how this person treats fellow employees and students. Explain with specifics how he/she displays qualities of fairness and respect. 
    • Good communication skills are necessary in a work environment. Please give examples of the ways this student communicates well. 
    • Please provide examples of how the student employee maintains confidentiality, adheres to a work schedule, and accepts responsibility for a quality performance. 
    • How does this student demonstrate that he/she is a team player? Please give specific examples.

  • The Club of the Year award is an esteemed honor bestowed upon a group that has not only demonstrated exceptional activity and engagement during both the Fall and Spring semesters of the academic year but has also been rigorously nominated for exemplifying the College's mission and values. This award recognizes a club that has significantly enhanced the campus experience and positively impacted the broader community through innovative initiatives and unwavering commitment. Earning this accolade reflects a club's outstanding dedication, leadership, and contribution to the ethos of the College of Southern Maryland.

  • Nomination Criteria: 

    • Club must have been active on campus during the Fall and Spring semesters of the academic year.
      • Registration paperwork must have been submitted prior to October 28, 2024.
    • Clubs must be active on more than one CSM campus to be considered for Club of the Year.
      • Activity must be physical/in person on other campuses to meet this requirement.
    • Clubs are required to finish the academic year in good standing to be eligible to be considered for Club of the Year.
    • Nomination may come from anyone active within the college community (student, faculty, or staff).
    • The person nominating the club must provide a well-articulated nomination document that explains why the club is deserving of Club of the Year.
    • Nomination documents must be no less than 500 words and adequately address each of the prompts in the nomination document.
  • Please upload a typed letter stating your reasons for nominating the club for this award. Please responsed to the following questions in your nomination letter: 

    • Describe how the club has been active on CSM campuses and/or within the community.
    • Describe how the club has contributed to supporting the College's mission on CSM campuses and/or in the community.
