  • ONWARD SCI Community Feedback Questionnaire

  • At ONWARD, we are committed to developing therapies to improve lives of people with spinal cord injury. To do this, it is essential to understand the needs and priorities of people with spinal cord injury.

Thank you in advance for supporting us in the next step. In this questionnaire, we will ask you to prioritize possible therapies for our ARC-IM platform: ONWARD's implantable spinal cord stimulation device. Additionally, how the platform could support people with spinal cord injury.

The questionnaire will take approximately 20 minutes. You can save your answers in between and continue later.

Please contact us should you need any support or need clarifications via filling the contact form on our website (www.onwd.com/contact).

Thank you for shaping the future of spinal cord injury care together with us!

  • Personal details

To help us better understand your input, we would appreciate it if you could provide some details about yourself and your spinal cord injury.

  • Feedback on lumbar therapy possibilities

  • ONWARD is developing an implantable system which allows stimulation to specific regions of the spinal cord. The questions in the following section are focusing on a stimulation applied in the lumbar region (i.e., the spinal cord between the pelvis and the chest). A stimulation in the lumbar region can support different functions and activities of the legs and feet.

It is the goal of this questionnaire to better understand which therapy opportunities are most important for you and other people with spinal cord injury.

Based on inputs from clinicians and a technical pre-evaluation we narrowed the therapy opportunities down to three possibilities for the lumbar region:

    • Standing
    • Stepping exercises & Assisted walking
    • Reduction of spasticity in the legs

In the following section, each of the three possible therapies are described and we ask you to rate them. Please add comments to complement any aspect you feel needs further clarification.

    Please note:

    • ONWARD is also considering other stimulation locations and other therapies, but they are not part of this questionnaire.
    • ONWARD is in the initial phase of the development and any of the identified therapies need to be investigated in clinical trials before safety and efficacy claims can be made.
  • A) Standing

  • The therapy has the potential to:

    • Enable standing with the support of devices or other people to decrease the risk of secondary complications
    • Assist in standing on your own during daily activities, including transfers (Example: Sit to stand to sit).
  • B) Stepping exercises & Assisted walking

  • By assisting the movement of the legs, this therapy has the potential to:

    • Support stepping exercises
    • Support assisted walking (Example: walking with assistance in everyday life)
  • C) Reduction of Spasticity in the legs

  • This therapy has the potential to reduce the tone of specific muscle groups of the legs.

  • Comparing therapy possibilities

In this section we ask you to compare the different therapy possibilities (i.e., Standing, Stepping exercises & Assisted walking, Spasticity in the legs) to better understand their importance to you.
  • Comparing Standing vs. Stepping exercises & Assisted walking

  • Comparing Standing vs. Reduction of Spasticity in the legs

  • Comparing Stepping exercises & Assisted walking vs. Reduction of Spasticity in the legs

  • Thank you for participating in this questionnaire!

We have more questions on possible therapy priorities when stimulating in the neck region of the spinal cord. This would take another 15 minutes. We would be happy to hear your opinion on it.

  • Feedback on cervical therapy possibilities

  • ONWARD is developing an implantable system which allows to stimulate specific regions of the spinal cord. The questions in the following section focus on stimulation applied in the neck region. Based on inputs from clinicians and a technical pre-evaluation we narrowed the therapy opportunities down to three possibilities:

    • Breathing
    • Arm & hand movement and sensation
    • Reduction of spasticity in the arms and hands

In the following section, each of the three possible therapies are described. Please add comments to complement any aspect you feel needs further clarification.

  • A) Breathing

  • The therapy has the potential to:

    • Support breathing
    • Support speech (Example: speech volume and duration of speech)
  • B) Arm & hand movement and sensation

  • This therapy has the potential to:

    • Support activation of specific muscle groups of the arms and hands
    • Support sensation in the arms and hands
  • C) Reduction of spasticity in the arms and hands

  • This therapy has the potential to reduce the tone of specific muscle groups of the arms and hands.

  • Thank you!

Thank you for dedicating your time to helping us define our future therapies!

We understand that no two spinal cord injuries are alike and would like to gather as much input as possible. If you know somebody else who has a spinal cord injury, please feel free to share this questionnaire with them as well.

We highly value your input and are open to any feedback you might have. Feel free to reach out to us by filling the contact form on our website (https://www.onwd.com/contact).
