2026 Delayed Cereal Grain Harvest Incentive Application

This application is for farmers who would like to enroll in California Waterfowl's Delayed Cereal Grain Harvest Incentive Program. It will collect a variety of information that our biologists need to assess the condition and location of fields you’d like to enroll. The program pays farmers $50 per acre to delay wheat or other winter-planted cereal grain until July 15 in order to allow time for wild duck nests in their fields to hatch, and for the ducklings to get to water. To be eligible fields must be a minimum of 20 acres, the crop must cover at least 75% of the field and be at least 8 inches tall, and there must be summer water located within 1 mile of the field. Fields will be scored based on proximate water sources, condition of the crop, size of field. There is an option to sign up for this program with additional monitoring and receive a higher incentive rate. Field monitoring will be conducted by dragging a rope through the field to detect nesting hens. This searching can be done by foot or with quads for total payments of $65/acre and $75/acre respectively. Signing up for these additional options does not guarantee that your fields will be selected.
