Proprietary School law defines a Proprietary School as any business (for profit or non-profit) with a physical presence in Louisiana that offers or sells occupational training or preparation for a field of endeavor in a business, trade, technical, or industrial occupation. However, this law also allows for multiple exemptions. Please see LA R.S. 3140.1. (6)(c)(i-xviii) for a complete list of all exemptions.
LA Board of Regents will provide recognized exemption letters to businesses that meet one or more of these exemptions when requested. The individual or business in question must provide the requested information to receive a recognized letter. This letter will be good through the end of the calendar year in which it was granted and will apply only to programs listed within. Recognized exemption letter renewals may be applied for each year.
If an individual or business has proposed changes to their educational programs, they should use the same Recognized Exemption Request form to update their letter, even if it is in the same calendar year.
