Mirror:
Checks a mirror every 4-8 seconds. Helps with lane placement & knowing who is around them at all times
Lane Placement:
Chooses the lane with the best visibility & space
Visibility: Avoids being behind a vision barrier (i.e. bus, truck), changes lanes to see ahead
Space:i.e. on a 5-lane road, chooses the lane in-between the turning lane and curb lane. This will give you the driver 2 options when trying to avoid a dangerous situation
Stopping & Slowing Down: Foot to Brake; Eyes to Mirror
Speed: Stays at the speed limit - not too fast or too slow
Vehicle Length: Leave one vehicle length between you and the vehicle in front of you.
Prevents a chain reaction accident and allows you an escape path incase the vehicle in front of you breaks down
Stop Signs: Make a complete stop, check (L-R-L), make eye contact with another vehicle, pedestrian, and/or biker if present
Eye contact helps ensure the other person sees you, helps communicate intentions (go or stay)
Leaving Yourself a Way Out: Driver returns to the vehicle and is able to put it in drive, not reverse
NEVER back onto a street. NEVER back up while on a street This exposes you & the public to risk. Cars hide in your blind area & blind spot behind the vehicle
