MTAC Los Angeles County Branch Recording & Attendance Policy
To All MTAC LA County Branch Teachers and Parents:
Recording: California Civil Code Section 1708.8 states that it is illegal to capture photos, videos, or audio recordings of people without their permission or consent, especially when minors are involved.
The MTAC – Los Angeles County Branch forbids the use of photography, audio and video recording of students’ performances during their public music branch events. This includes the use of the following recording devices:
Cell phones/smartphones (e.g., iPhone, Android, Google Pixel, etc.)
Tablets
Mirrorless cameras
DSLR cameras
Camcorders
Mini recorders
In open recitals and auditions, photography and video recording of a student performer by a family member or friend will be allowed at one designated seat at the front. All other areas are prohibited.
Participating teachers may monitor the audience to enforce the policy. Failure to honor this policy will result in the associated child performer to: 1. forfeit his/her award, if chosen as a winner, and 2. be banned from the same music branch event the following year.
Attendance: No more than 3 family members are allowed to attend an event. Any child under the age of 5 is not allowed inside the venue during the program.
It is in our best interest to keep student performers safe and to respect their privacy, therefore we will uphold these rules for all of our public branch music events. Prior to the event, please share this reminder to other family members and friends who plan to attend. You, and your student’s families’ cooperation in this important matter is greatly appreciated.
Upon signing this policy, you agree to the above terms and accept the penalties that may be handed to the student participant.
