The “box” style is exclusive to very early cars only and has a small rectangular pad at the front that is not pleated. The “saddle” style has pleats that extend the length of the cover. The change point was 800025 for RHD cars and 811257 for LHD cars.

Starting in March, 1956, XK140 DHC and FHC models incorporated tubular seat back frames. The upholstery changed also, with the later style leather covering the seat hinge. Finally, a single unused 3/8" hole is visible in the base frame on the later version seats.
