2026 Art Scholarship Application
The Black Art Today Foundation Scholarship
The Black Art Today Foundation will award two $1,000 scholarships to students pursuing an undergraduate degree in the visual, performing, or literary arts (including music, dance, and theater) at an accredited college or university in the United States. Scholarship funds must be used for tuition, books, or other approved educational expenses.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for this award, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Residency: Must reside in Maryland, specifically within Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Montgomery County, or Prince George's County.
Academic Level: Must be either a graduating high school senior or a rising college sophomore (entering their second year at an accredited college or university).
Academic Standing: Must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
Application Instructions and Required Documents
Applicants must submit all required documents listed below. Incomplete applications, or applications received by mail after the deadline, will not be considered.
1.Official Transcript: Provide an official transcript from your most recent high school or college.
2. Letters of Recommendation: Academic: Provide a minimum of two written statements from appropriate academic officials addressing your academic achievements.
3. Character Reference: Provide at least two character references.
4. Essay: Submit an essay of 500 to 1,000 words responding to one of the following prompts:
Prompt 1: Art often requires vulnerability and dedication. Why have you chosen to dedicate yourself to becoming a writer, musician, performer, or visual artist, and what impact do you hope to make?
Prompt 2: Every artistic discipline has its unique challenges and triumphs. Which specific aspect of your chosen medium motivates you to keep creating, even when the process is difficult?
Prompt 3: Identify an artist, writer, or performer—past or present—who has profoundly shaped your understanding of what art can achieve. How does their legacy inform your own work?
Prompt 4: Art thrives in community, but access is often limited. If provided with unlimited opportunities and resources, what specific initiatives would you build to make the arts more accessible, vibrant, and sustainable in your community?
