To minimize risk to you, the dog, and others, Support 4 Paws suggests that your new dog is not taken out in public for 2 weeks so that they have time to adjust and settle. Support 4 Paws doesn't support taking dogs to dog parks where they may become over-stimulated and over-excited potentially leading to unpredictable or undesirable behavior. A rescue dog should be socialized thoughtfully by taking leashed walks and responsibly introducing the dog to other people - including kids as long as the kids have been instructed how to properly interact with a dog.
