Project includes: Storm Water Upgrades including upsizing existing pipes and replacing stormwater manholes and surface restoration to existing conditions.

  • UG 741 Bethany Village Watermain

Bethany Village requires the replacement/ repair of an existing water main which began leaking. The line was isolated and a secondary water main is currently serving the building. This scope of work is for the excavation and exposing of the line to investigate the cause of leak and for subsequent repair and replacement. This will also include the repair of parking lot and sidewalk removed to allow for the completion of this work.

  • UG-765A EM Robotics Inspection

Please Note: This is an added subproject for LBCO's job # UG-765, 52 St & Memorial Dr Ne Feedermain Repair in which we are designated Prime Contractor.
This portion includes assisting Pure Technologies in performing a PureRobotics® inspection of the Feedermain at Insertion points 1A, 1B and 3B to evaluate the condition of the pipelines using the PureRobotics® platform integrated with PureEM® electromagnetic technology and high-resolution closed-circuit television (CCTV).

This inspection aims to locate broken prestressing wires in PCCP and broken bars in BWP sections of pipe, which will allow the City of Calgary to proactively manage the failure risk and asset life of these critical pipelines. The information gathered will then be analyzed to identify areas of interest for further investigation of repair.

  • UG-766 2025 Watermain Replacement

The project will entail the replacement of the current corroded mains located at (13) separate sites in Calgary with new PVC pipe in public areas of Calgary.

  • UG-777C Pipe Diver Installation

LBCO will be responsible for supporting COC with the removal and reinstallation of MH 731 frame and cover, 18" blind flange. LBCO will also support Pure Technologies with confined space entry for install and removal of Pipe Diver Extractor, adapter flange, tether and camera

  • UG-777D Aidrie 900 Feeder Main Repair

LBCO will be responsible for completing all required welding and testing to install the adapters and the butt straps.

  • UG-781 SS B42 Outfall Phase 1

The Sunnyside Stormwater B42 Outfall project is one piece in a large group of projects to upgrade the stormwater management system along the Bow River. Following a 50-year rain event that caused severe damage back in 2013, the City of Calgary has been progressively upgrading the stormwater system near the downtown core.

  • UG-782 CIPP Lining

The Cured in Place Pipe (CIPP) Lining Package aims to reinforce existing water mains that have worn with age. The selected locations have water mains that cross difficult passages that would make excavation impractical. To mediate this a pipe lining can be installed inside and through the existing pipes from excavations in more opportune locations. This avoids need to excavate across these crucial locations but allows for maintenance on the pipelines which will lengthen their durability moving forward.

  • UG-784 Shepard Energy Centre - Repair SOR

Provide upfront procurement support of necessary repair equipment, and to activate a standby response for an emergency repair to the pipeline should
an issue occur during the inspection.

This work has two anticipated phases:
    1. Immediate procurement of 500mm OD PVC pipeline Smith-Blair couplings (note that manufacturer is specific due to previous difficulties with alternate supplier couplings), and a minimum of 20m of replacement PVC pipe.
    2. Future standby for and potential deployment to repair site to perform an emergency repair of the pipeline, including excavation, cutting / segment removal, and replacement of damaged segment using prior-procured emergency spare parts.
This work is critical to ensure the continued protection of vulnerable critical infrastructure.

  • UG-785 Discovery Ridge Lift Station

Survey and hydrovac utility explorations required at Discovery Ridge Lift Station.

  • UG-786 Bowness Park Cross Tie

Remove and replace 16" washout valve

  • UG-787 Linear Replacements

The 2026 Linear Replacements and Extensions package primarily aims to remove and replace existing water pipelines with new PVC mains. Some portions will require extensions, and another portion on Haddon Road will replace approximately 90 meters of sanitary main. Building services and hydrants will also be replaced (in some cases added) while moving down each stretch of road.

  • UG-788 154 Wimbledon Cres SW

Install water and sanitary services from city mains to property line.

  • UG-792 9 Ave SW Watermain Improvements

This project involves watermain network improvements at 9 Avenue SW and 8 Street SW. The project also includes decommissioning work from an already removed watermain on the 9 Avenue SW overpass at 8 Street SW.
Specifically, the improvements are: Connecting the existing 300m m diameter 9 Ave SW watermain to the 300 mm watermain on 8 St SW through private (Enmax) property within a newly acquired Utility Right of Way (URW).
Removal of surface structures within existing URWs on private property at the south-east and south-west corners of the 8 Street SW and 9 Avenue SW bridge. This will provides the following benefits:
    • Add system redundancy.
    • Improve fire flow for existing areas.
    • Reduce/mitigate water quality concerns.
    • Improve the system design to meet current design standard.
    • Establish better water network for future redevelopment, and operational considerations.

  • UG-793 Applewood Lift Station

The project at the Applewood Lift Station aims to install isolation and bypass valves downstream from the wet well by the lift station. The ability to isolate the force main from the lift station will enable future refurbishment and replacement of piping and valves (not part of this scope). To complete this isolation work, a new valve will be hot tapped into the live force main. Additional valves will be tapped to allow for bypassing from a 6inch camlock setup. All valves to open counter-clockwise (left) and close clockwise (right). Once complete, a manhole will be installed around the section to allow entry for access to control and bypass the force main.

    FORCE MAIN FAILURE EMERGENCY RESPONSE
This section provides site specific procedures for emergency preparation and response IN THE EVENT OF SANITARY FORCE MAIN RELEASE. For a project overview to better understand the need for this emergency procedure please refer to the LBCO Project Site Safety Plan for Applewood Lift Station (Document #202600007).

This emergency procedure is provided alongside with Pacific Flow Control’s Emergency Response Plan – Contingency Plan for Tapping PVC Pipes (Appendix D in the Project Site Safety Plan). Pacific Flow Control is responsible for the hot tap on the live force main which presents the most risk for the pressurized pipe to release. Their emergency procedure will be executed along with these additional procedures executed by LBCO to contain and control any release.

IN THE EVENT OF SANITARY FORCE MAIN RELEASE
    Preventative Measures
LBCO will have a vacuum truck on standby during hot tap procedures ready to act in the event of a rupture.
Notification will be provided to the vac-truck contractor that at least two additional trucks will be needed within short notice to aid flow remediation if failure occurs.
LBCO must have the necessary materials to complete a repair on site at the ready. For this project the following standby materials will be required:
1x 10-inch Blue Brute PVC, AWWA C900 pipe
2x 10-ing Blue Brute PVC, AWWA C900 repair couplers
Emergency Response Procedure If the Force main is damaged and leakage is observed:
Contact City Crew to shut off lift station pumps
Begin draining the influent manhole (upstream of the wet well) using a vacuum truck.

3.Mobilize at least two additional vacuum trucks to support evacuation of influent sewage.

4.Remove sewage from the trench and proceed with forcemain repairs.

5.Continue sewage evacuation from the influent manhole until the forcemain repair is complete.
