Find out more about specific elements of the event by ticking the respective boxes below or leave blank to display the full event guide.
Please note that there is no parking at Tolcarne Beach and parking in the vicinity is very limited. We have secured free parking at Newquay Tretherras (first come first served), which is a 15min walk away.
Other parking areas nearby:
We have streamlined the check-in process to limit queues to an absolute minimum. Upon arrival, please follow the one-way system with your bike and kit to registration. Junior athletes to be accompanied by one parent only.
ONE-WAY SYSTEM
Please follow the yellow arrows to registration and the transition zone. Once registered, proceed to spectator zone J (junior start) or spectator zone A (adult start) following the white arrows to await your start.
REGISTRATION PROCEDURE
Come prepared and be done in a few seconds to help us avoid queues.
Step 1:
Step 2:
Pick up your event pack and safety pins (if needed). The event pack contains:
Step 3:
Once registered, wheel your bike to transition following the yellow arrows (see map in registration section) along the one-way system.
Marshals will check your helmet strap and handlebar end plugs before you are allowed to place your bike on your designated rack. You will find your racking number on the START LIST tab.
Please rack your bike by looping the saddle over the horizontal bar, one bike facing left, next right (5 bikes per rack) and store your kit to the left of your bike (when looking at the rack). Remember, no boxes allowed in transition. A small soft backed backpack is fine but keep your kit to a minimum as space is at a premium.
Remember to stick the number label from your event pack to the front of your head tube. To pick up your bike post event, marshals will check that the sticker on your bike matches your race number. No match, no bike.
Collecting bikes & kit post event:
You will be able to pick up your bike once everyone has finished the cycling element of the event. Please check-in and out with the transition marshals to verify that your race number matches the numbered bike sticker.
The event is run under and in accordance with British Triathlon rules. As water temperatures are currently below 14 degrees, wetsuits will be mandatory.
HANDY TIPS
Organise
When setting up transition, only take the essentials in with you. This will help you get in and out of transition quicker with minimal fuss and stress!
Visualise
Transition can often be a busy and sometimes confusing place on event day. Make sure you know your swim exit, bike out & in and run out to help gain those precious seconds! Familiarise yourself with the one-way system and look out for something visual near your bike slot, making it easy to spot when you are running into transition.
Prepare
Make sure your bike is set up in the right gear. You don’t want to be left struggling in the first few meters of the event.
TRANSITION MAP
While participants have access to public toilets and outdoor showers at Tolcarne Beach Village, we highly recommend arriving in your swim costume/trunks for the adult triathlon. This will allow you to take off no longer needed layers in the transition zone and help with our hygiene rules. Please only keep the gear you need for the cycle and run leg in the transition zone as space is limited. Store unnecessary kit in your car or near registration at your own risk.
Please proceed through the finish arch, keeping the finish area clear for other participants to run in. Make sure you take off your chip and place it in the bucket provided before collecting your well deserved medal.
There will be water available at the finish area. Please use it to refill your own bike bottle to limit any waste. Hot and cold drinks, as well as food will be available to purchase near the finish.
Presentations will be outside at the finish area at approximately 11:30am (adults) and 4:30pm (juniors) with prizes awarded to the 1st to 3rd place winners, male and female, in the following age groups (age as of 31-Dec of participating year):
You will receive a chip-timing device for the duration of the race. Competitors must wear their allocated chip on their left ankle throughout the event and ensure they place it in the bucket provided at the end of the race. Lost chips are subject to a £50 fee the timing company's stock.
Live results may be available on site. We will upload all timings within 24h of the event to intotri.com/cornish-tri
Spectators are most welcome at IntoTRI’s Cornish Tri Series. In Newquay, we have dedicated specatator zones. Zone J has a view over the transition and finish area, as well as the junior bike and run course (see map in registration section above), while spectator zone A overlooks the adult swim start at Tolcarne Beach. For safety and security reasons spectators can NOT enter the following areas:
IntoTRI’s Cornish Tri Series is staged on open roads (adult event only). Please be mindful of other road users and pedestrians/cyclists. Marshals are placed at strategic points to ensure your safety and keep the impact on other road users to a minimum. Please follow their directions at all times, they are there to make the event enjoyable and safe for all, not to prevent PBs.
Getting Help
If you have any problems whilst out on the course, please stay where you are and tell the next competitor that you see. We will get out to you as soon as possible and bring both you and/or your bike back to the leisure centre. If you see a competitor in trouble please notify a marshal who will be in contact with the organiser via mobile phone.
Withdrawal
If you withdraw from the event at any time, please let the event director know as we may think that you are still out on the course and will go to search for you. Contact details: Ben Kent
M: 07591187058, E: cornwall@intotri.com
Please familiarise yourself with the briefing notes below, which replace the mandatory race briefing on site. Any last minute announcements from the race director will be displayed on a notice board at registration.
The Micro Goat is a fun, non-timed introduction to intoTRI’s Mini Tri events. We are using a rolling start, limiting the number of children on course to max 15. Parents are encouraged to support their children in a socially distanced area to change from run to bike and bike to run.
Please take your child's bike out of the transition zone and proceed to the start location 10min before the start of the event.
THE RULES
THE COURSE
The Run and Bike routes follow a flat circuit on grass. Children run 1x lap of the course before picking up their bikes from their parents, who will be waiting in a dedicated area. After cycling 1x lap, participants drop off bikes with their parents and head out for a 300m run on on the Barrowfields to the finish, where they can collect their well deserved medal. Marshals will be at hand to direct your children around the course.
