  • Community Arts and Entertainment Showcase Application

    This application is for anyone who wishes to participate in the Festival of Nations (FON) to Perform, Entertain or Activate & Cultivate a dynamic, inclusive and enriching Festival experience for attendees.


    The Festival of Nations Community Showcase serves as a platform to promote intercultural understanding, to educate, entertain and inspire attendees while fostering appreciation and respect for the richness and diversity of the world's cultures. This provides an opportunity for attendees to experience and engage with different cultures, broadening their horizons and promoting cultural exchange.

    Showcases will not only entertain and delight but also offer classes, demonstrations, programming or sessions within the main Festival footprint and/or specific programming areas. These showcases will contribute to the overall atmosphere and enjoyment of the Festival as they relate to the arts, education, environment, health and wellness, multiculturalism and so much more! 

    By sharing cultural traditions and artistry, our performers, entertainers, activators and cultivators foster inclusivity, celebrate diversity and create a sense of unity among the Festival audience; ultimately creating a positive and lasting impact within the fabric of our communities.

    We are requiring a $25 application fee to be considered as an application for the Community Showcase. Please email festofnations@iistl.org with any additional questions.

    as you select your community  showcase classification: 

     

    1. Performers: Referred to as (but not limited to): an individual or group who entertains the Festival's audience through their abilities, talents and various forms of artistic expression. FON showcases and celebrates all cultural diversity and traditions of different ethnicities, nationalities and cultural backgrounds. 

      Performers may include (but are not limited to):


      Singer/Songwriter

      Musician

      Band

      Dancer

      Dance Group

    2. Entertainers: Referred to as (but not limited to): individuals or groups who provide various forms of entertainment and engage the audience through their skills, acts, or presentations. These entertainers contribute to the overall atmosphere and enjoyment of the festival by offering engaging and captivating performances. They can encompass a wide range of talents and disciplines, such as:

      Circus & Aerial Arts: Acrobats, jugglers and other skilled artists who showcase their talents through daring stunts and impressive physical feats.

      Comedian 

      Street Performer:
      Balloon artists, living statues, mimes or other artists who engage with the crowd directly. 

      Variety Acts: Illusionists, magicians, hypnotists, ventriloquists, mentalists and other acts that offer mesmerizing or mind-boggling experiences.

      Visual Performer: Live painters, face painters, or other visually captivating acts that create unique and visually appealing experiences.

    3. Experiential Activators & Cultivators: Referred to as (but not limited to) unique or specialized services or experiences that are designed to enhance the Festival experience by offering interactive, hands-on and personalized encounters/educational opportunities to Festival goers. They provide entertainment, evoke creativity, spark joy and add an element of surprise.


      These are essential in adding to the overall Festival atmosphere and offer attendees the opportunity to expand their cultural horizons, learn new skills, engage with others and leave with unique and memorable experiences to explore further after the Festival concludes. 

      Examples include (but are not limited to):

      Classes and Activities: Hands-on sessions where participants can learn practical skills or engage in specific activities related to various fields. These involve a variety of opportunities such as tea ceremonies, DYI classes, teaching attendees how to play traditional games, etc.

      Cultural Presentations: Highlights the traditions, customs, and heritage of different communities. These involve performances, storytelling, or presentations on topics such as folk music, dance, traditional costumes, or cultural practices. Attendees can learn about diverse cultures, fostering appreciation and understanding. presenters share folktales, myths, legends, or personal narratives from different cultures. 

      Educational Demonstrations: Showcases and explains specific concepts, processes, or techniques in an informative and engaging manner. It can include traditional musical instrument demonstrations from different cultures, science experiments, technology demonstrations, cooking demonstrations, or demonstrations of traditional crafts or skills. 

      Environment and Sustainability Initiatives: Activities that promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices. Includes workshops on recycling, composting, energy conservation, renewable energy, or sessions on climate change and its impact. Participants learn about sustainable lifestyles and ways to minimize their environmental footprint. 

      Health and Wellness Sessions: Classes, activities or presentations that aim to promote self-care and provide attendees with tools and knowledge to enhance their overall well-being. Offerings are culturally diverse and include opportunities like hosted sports games, yoga, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Krav Maga, meditation, rock climbing wall, skateboarding, skating, rollerblading, mindfulness workshops, sound baths, fitness demonstrations, nutrition talks, or sessions on mental health and well-being, etc. 

      Language Lessons: Short language lessons or phrase workshops, teaching Festival-goers common greetings, phrases or cultural expressions from different languages. 

      ** Important Note Regarding Experiential Activators & Cultivators: In an effort to promote collaboration, both the festival organizer and vendors will waive their respective fees, emphasizing a shared commitment to the success of the event. Vendors must provide their own tent(s), chair(s) equipment and supplies. Experiential Activators & Cultivators


      ** Important Note Regarding Experiential Activators & Cultivators: To be considered part of the "Community Showcase" you provide your service or experience as complimentary to attendees. If you are offering your service or experience for a fee then you will be considered a "Market Vendor"

  • Entertainment Performance Areas

    Entertainers will have the option of selecting which Festival area they would like to request to be featured in. Available areas include those that are Festival Ticketed Programming areas as well as general Festival footprint areas. Details are provided below:

    1. Cultural Crossroads Stage: Entertainers will be showcased on the Festival's second stage, located within Tower Grove Park's Music Stand Pavilion and within close proximity to the VIP programming and market areas.

      * Space is extremely limited and not guaranteed.

    2. Festival Programming Participation: Entertainers will be showcased within a specific Festival programming area that is ticketed. 

      * Entertainers will not be charged a booth space rental fee but may be required to provide their own tent(s)/table(s)/chair(s) and materials. 

      ** Please note that due to limited availability, not everyone will be approved to participate in the programming space.

      Available programs to contribute to include:

      *  VIP Program: Ticket options include VIP day and weekend passes and New VIP Cabana area. VIP activation areas are located directly next to the Global Music Main stage. Estimating between 500-1,000 ticket sales/participants.

      *  Kokoro (Wellness) Program: New two-day programming will revolve around health and wellness activities and educational opportunities. We are seeking a diverse and wide variety of offerings from all cultures and backgrounds. Estimating between 250-500 ticket sales/participants.

      *  Ohana (Family) Program: New two-day programming that will revolve around family-friendly activities and educational opportunities. We are seeking a diverse and wide variety of offerings from all cultures and backgrounds. Estimating between 250-500 ticket sales/participants. 

      Festival Programming Showcase Benefits:
      * Listed within the associated program on the FON website
      * Featured on social media accounts (Not guaranteed)
      * Access to FON digital event bag
      * Included on general and specific program signage
      * Included on digital/printed Festival map 
      * Guaranteed picture capture upon request


    3. General Community Showcase Participation: Entertainers will be showcased in the general footprint of the Festival, as it may not be applicable to being hosted in a booth or specific programming area. 

      * Showcase that may or may not require a booth(s), table(s), chair(s) or designated amount of space/requirements to be supported. (All equipment and materials must be provided by the entertainer.)

      * Festival organizers will identify the best-suited area to ensure prime visibility and participation.  


      General Showcase Benefits:
      * Listed in the Community Showcase section on FON website
      * Featured on social media accounts
      * Included on general program signage

      * Included on digital/printed Festival map

  • World Refugee Day Event Opportunity

    The annual IISTL World Refugee Day Event is being hosted on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at City Foundry. The purpose of the event is to create excitement and intrigue around the offerings of the International Institute, support refugees and immigrants and promote our multicultural city. Programming throughout the day will include live music, entertainment, awards and a vendor market (aiming for 50 vendors)! 

    Participating performers will be included in digital and social marketing promotions initiated by City Foundry, IISTL and Festival of Nation's Marketing and Media Partners.
