• Volunteer Position - Committees

  • Overview of the Opportunity

Article 6 of OACETT By-law 20 speaks to the Standing Committees of the new Board of Directors. Three committees are specifically identified in the by-law, but article 6.4 confers the ability on the Board of Directors to appoint other committees to support the governance of OACETT and, in fact, seven standing committees have been established.  In the past, committees of Council were called Boards and were populated exclusively by members of Council.  In OACETT’s new governance model, the Chairs of the Standing Committees will be members of the Board of Directors, but all other members of the committees will be OACETT members at large. This is an opportunity for members to put their names forward to serve on one of these committees.

    Standing Committees

The Nominating Committee is seeking applicants for each of the following committees (click on each link to access the Terms of Reference for each committee):

    • Registration and Professional Practice (RPPC) (the evolution of IETO)
    • Member Engagement and Services (MESC) (the evolution of PAS)
    • Finance and Audit (FAC)
    • Governance, Strategy and Policy (GSPC)
    • Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEIC)
    • Young Professionals

The Nominating Committee was recruited and appointed last fall in order to play their role in the governance transition. There is also a Human Resources (HR) Committee charged with the relationship with the CEO, which is comprised of the President, Past-President and President-Elect.

This call for candidates also includes a call to fill two (2) vacancies on the Board of Trustees of the Fletcher Foundation.

    Qualifications

In all cases except the Fletcher Foundation (which is just the two vacancies), the Nominating Committee will be seeking to provide as much diversity as possible on each of the committees, including having a representative from each region, where there are sufficient applications.  This means a maximum of 6 individuals will be sought for each committee, with the Chair making seven.

Both Certified and Associate members are eligible to serve on the committees.

    Appointment Process

The Nominating Committee will review all the applications received and will recommend rosters for all committees for appointment by the incoming Board of Directors at their meeting in September (please make note of the long time gap, but the incoming Board of Directors needs to have their orientation first). MESC is the exception. The Nominating Committee will vet the applications for completeness, but as MESC is considered the direct representative voice of the regions, Chapters and members, all valid candidates will go to election by the members in their region.  The election will open on May 2 and close on May 17.  The results will be announced at the AGM on May 27, 2023.

    Time Commitment

    • The committees will typically meet at least 4 times per year, usually in advance of each meeting of the Board of Directors in order to provide reporting and/or seek decisions.
    • Some additional work may be required between meetings and emergency meetings may be called as required.
    • Some committees may need to meet more frequently, or in a different cadence, depending on their role in OACETT’s governance cycle.
    • With few exceptions, all meetings will be virtual.

    Compensation

Committee members are not compensated for their time. OACETT will cover all expenses related to duties, including travel, accommodation, and meals for OACETT meetings and events if required. Volunteering on committees is eligible for CPD credits.

    How to apply

    • Complete and submit the form by April 17, 2023

  • Demographic Diversity

This is a key aspect of ensuring OACETT's Board and Committees accurately represent the diverse experiences and perspectives of its members. For OACETT Demographic Diversity includes two major groupings of characteristics, Visible and Non-Visible.

Visible Diversity - refers to characteristics that can be readily seen such as age, gender, colour or race (e.g. a person who is non-Caucasian in race, or non-white in colour).

Non-Visible Diversity - refers to the characteristics that cannot be readily seen such as, but not limited to disability, gender identify, socioeconomics, education, culture, and experience.

We acknowledge that for some what we often consider visible may not be and the opposite may also be true. We also have purposely not included questions about certain diversity characteristics, such as age, gender or education, because that information is already in our Database as part of your membership and certification.
