You are being retained by ESL to perform coaching services during the 2023-2024 season for the teams described in Exhibit A (Coach Compensation) and for supporting and implementing key club initiatives described in Exhibit B (Club Initiatives.) As an ESL coach, you are responsible for the overall development of your team and its individual players. You will determine the details of performing these services within the parameters of the club-defined curriculum, subject to ESL’s policies and standards of quality, and Sol Cal, US Soccer, CYSA-South rules. Your services will include the following elements.
1) TEAM FORMATION, including player recruiting, tryouts, player selection, and team bracketing.
2) TEAM ORGANIZATION, including organizational meetings and organizing a team calendar and budget in partnership with your team manager. ESL does not mandate the time for performance of the services, including times for team meetings and social events, but will provide club-sponsored events to facilitate the process.
3) TEAM DEVELOPMENT, including style of play, practice plans, training sessions, tournament plans, and league play. Coaches will be responsible for creating and submitting written practice and tournament plans to their Age Group Coordinators .
4) PLAYER DEVELOPMENT, including written player evaluations and player/parent meetings to review player evaluations.
5) CLUB PARTICIPATION, including coaches’ meetings, tryouts, camps, clinics and special events Holiday parade in December is an event were are asking full participation of our staff. This includes help with set up and clean up at these events.
6) High school coaches are requierd to attend their truout sessions if coaching a younger age group, if coaching a younger age group during high school season club training sessions will continue it's up to the coach to work out conflics, in respect to events, high school coaches are to attend 5 events hosted by the club upon request, failure to do so could result in contract adjustments.
7) REQUIRED LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS. You must have the following licenses and certifications, obtained at your own expense.
a) USSF Coaching License – obtain/maintain minimum coaching license for assigned team(s)
b) Risk Management Certification – obtain Risk Management clearance each season including new SafeSport requirements
c) First Aid CPR/AED Certification (every 2 years) – maintain certification – required every 2 years
In providing the services under this contract, the following coaching guidelines and policies should be observed by all Express competitive coaches:
- Conflict of Interest – You are not required to work exclusively for ESL, and you may provide services to other youth athletic organizations, soccer leagues or organizations, as well as private training. However, such services shall not conflict with coaching services provided to ESL and must be communicated and approved by your Age Group Director.
- Tournaments - All teams are expected to participate in at least 3 pre- and at least 1 post-season tournaments. ESL reserves the right to proportionately reduce the compensation for any coach whose team does not take part in post-season play.
- Attire – coaches must dress professionally for all club-sponsored events – practices, camps, clinics, games, meetings – preferably in Express-branded gear. Branded gear from competing organizations is not allowed.
- Issue Resolution – coaches should communicate any player, parent or team problems to their Age Group Director immediately in order for them to effectively assist in resolving issues.
- Player Transfers – player transfers are not allowed within the Roster Freeze period – August 1st through the last post-season game (State or National Cup.) Any player transfer request should be communicated immediately to your Age Group Director.
- Equipment Management - all coaches will take care of equipment such as balls, cones, and pinnies provided by club for team practices as well as goals and other equipment at practice fields. All storage areas should be kept orderly and treated with respect for the community of coaches who share these facilities.
- Recruting, you agree that you will not recruit Express players, coaches, to affiliate with any other clubs or leagues at anytime, if you choose to leave Express or your contract is not renewed you agrre to not coach in the same age group .
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Under supervision of Executive Director / DOC , you are to Oversee and manage coaches and teams within age group
• Implement recruitment and retention plans for players within age group.
• Under direction of DOC’s Organize and Attend tryouts and assist coaches with team formation to ensure that teams are viable from both a soccer and financial perspective; work with coaches on the allocation of financial aid and scholarship dollars.
• Implement curriculum for 7v7 age group; support coaches with the development of practice plans that incorporate appropriate curriculum components throughout the season
• Assist coaches with team management issues; resolve conflicts or elevate issues as necessary in order to reach resolution.
• Parent education - setting guidelines and expectations for the early stages of player development. Get parents into good habits when their children are in the first stages of their journey through youth soccer.
• Consult with Executive / DOC to place teams in proper leagues and brackets to optimize team and player development.
• Work with Director of Recreational to identify and recruit players from recreational program.
• Observe and mentor coaches to improve their coaching effectiveness, provide coaches with feedback & progress reports.
• Lead & participate in coaching education workshops to improve coaching knowledge.
