Blade of Honour Register of Interest Form

 

The Battle of Britain Memorial Trust CIO is considering constructing a memorial pathway to commemorate 'the Many' who supported ‘the Few’ who took part in the Battle of Britain. It will be constructed of stone tiles that will be inserted into the blades that radiate from the National Memorial to the Few at the Capel-le-Ferne site and will form an integral part of the Memorial. 

You may register your interest in purchasing a tile to commemorate a nominated person using this form.

You can nominate anyone who served between 10th July and 31st October 1940 (the official period designated as the Battle of Britain) in a military or civilian service directly connected to the Battle of Britain. Aircrew who were associated with Fighter Command earlier from mid June 1940 or later in November of that year, will be considered on merit, so please also submit their names.

We are asking for expressions of interest only at this point, as each of the three blades has space for approximately 270 stone tiles. To retain the special look and feel of the Memorial, the project will only commence once there are enough names to complete an entire blade. It is hoped that we will have received sufficient information on the level of interest by the end of 2023 to enable the project to go ahead, with the first blade of tiles laid during the summer of 2024.

The grey, non-slip, granite tiles are 150mm x 350mm and have space for up to 60 inscribed letters. They are expected to cost approximately £495 per tile (inc. VAT).

We appreciate that the total cost of nominating a recipient may stretch some people's budgets; talk to us about our staged payment plan if that would help.

Before completing this form, please ensure that you have, or will be able to obtain in the future, evidence to enable the Trust to verify that, in all probabiliy,  your nominee served during the period required. No applications will be progressed to the point of full purchase without sufficient evidence as defined in the Terms and Conditions for the project. 

There is a charge of £5 for registering your interest which will be refunded if the project does not go ahead or if your nominee is deemed ineligible. If your nominee proves eligible and you wish to proceed, the £5 will be deducted from the £495 cost of the tile.  The payment of £5 will be taken on completion of this form and you will not be able to submit your registration until this has been processed.
