Vehicle marshals/ stewards
1. Will be responsible for persons travelling on their float from the time of line up in Brockley Road to safe arrival and dispersal at the Polegrove.
2. Will carry out a safety check of their vehicle with regards to seating, rails, props etc.
3. Will check tow bars, electrical and other equipment prior to move of at 1pm.
4. Will watch their vehicle occupants and the crowd whilst moving to discourage the throwing of missiles of any sort and encourage the use of collection boxes.
5. In the event of a road traffic accident or float incident the procession will stop, the float marshals will ensure safe evacuation of their float and call for assistance of emergency or breakdown services - most services will be part of the procession.
6. Float marshals will wear the high visibility jackets provided AT ALL TIMES.
7. Float marshals will ensure their floats follow directions of carnival marshals and police at all times.
8. ALL marshals are to be over 18yrs of age.
CARNIVAL PROCESSION RULES
1. EVERY PROCESSION VEHICLE WILL PROVIDE FOUR STEWARDS/ MARSHALS TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF PERSONS TRAVELLING ON THE VEHICLE OR TRAILER.YOU ARE ASKED TO COMPLY WITH CARNIVAL HEALTH AND SAFETY RISK ASSESSMENT POLICY STATEMENT.
2. ALL MOTOR VEHICLES MUST HAVE AT LEAST THIRD PARTY ROAD RISK INSURANCE.
3. FLOATS MUST NOT EXCEED AN OVERALL WIDTH OF 11 FEET.
4. FLOATS MUST NOT EXCEED AND OVERALL HEIGHT OF 13 FEET.
5. TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR JUDGING, THE FLOAT ENTRY FORM MUST BE SUBMITTED TO THE ORGANISER PRIOR TO THE CLOSING DATE.
6. A SIGNED ENTRY FORM IS YOUR GUARANTEE TO ABIDE BY THE RULES FOR PROCESSION ENTRY SET OUT BY THE CARNIVAL COMMITTEE.
7. THIS ALSO APPLIES TO THE NOMINATED JUDGES’ DECISION.
8. FLOATS ENTERING THE PROCESSION ARE ASKED TO ENTER BROCKLEY ROAD FROM THE SEAFRONT END WHERE A MARSHAL WILL BE IN ATTENDANCE TO DIRECT THEM THEIR PLACE NUMBER IN THE PROCESSION
9. JUDGING WILL BE DONE ON ROUTE OF THE PROCESSION. PLEASE ENSURE YOUR ORGANISATION NAME IS BOLD & VISIBLE FOR THE JUDGES TO SEE.
10. WE WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SPECIFY THAT THE PROCESSION WILL DEPART BROCKLEY ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 1:00PM AND WE WOULD LIKE TO ASK THAT YOU ARE READY TO DEPART BY 12:30PM.
11. ANY FLOAT NOT COMPLYING WITH CARNIVAL RULES OR CAUSING LONG DELAYS OR DISRUPTIONS WILL BE WITHDRAWN FROM THE PROCESSION BY MARSHALS.
12. A ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY IS UPHELD BY THE BEXHILL CARNIVAL COMMITTEE. VIOLENT OR ABUSIVE BEHAVIOUR WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. THOSE WHO ARE SEEN TO BE PARTICIPATING IN SUCH BEHAVIOURS WILL BE WITHDRAWN AND ASKED TO LEAVE.
13. THE PERSON RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FLOAT DOES NOT HAVE ANY CRIMINAL CONVICTIONS IN THE LAST 5 YEARS. PLEASE REFER TO THE REHABILITATION OF OFFENDERS ACT 1974. www.justice.gov.uk
14. THE CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOL DURING THE CARNIVAL, BY ALL PARTICIPANTS IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED.

JUDGING WILL TAKE PLACE ON ROUTE AND WINNERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN THE POLEGROVE AT THE END OF THE PROCESSION. ALL ENTRIES WILL BE PLACED IN OUR "BEST IN SHOW" AWARD WHICH WILL ALSO BE ANNOUNCED IN THE POLEGROVE.
